Here at Extreme Audio, we sell lots of remote car starters. And one of the most popular questions from our Midlothian, Virginia, clients is “What is the difference between one-way and two-way systems?” That is a good question. Follow along as we explore the differences, so you will know which one is right for your needs.
One-Way Systems
One-way systems have been around for as long as there have been remote controls. The term means that the system has one-way communication: You press a button on your remote control, and the remote starter sees the command and starts your car. That’s all there is to it. We offer several different systems in this category, ranging from basic systems that will work at your residence to systems with up to 1 mile of range.
Two-Way Systems
Two-way systems are the next generation of remote controls. Where they differ is that the vehicle now communicates back to the remote, confirming that the command has been executed.
If you have never owned a remote car starter, you may be asking yourself why you would ever need this feature when all you want to do is start your car from your residence in the morning. Well, once you go out to a warm vehicle one time, you will be hooked. Now, when you are finishing up at work, school, dinner, the movies, you will want to have your vehicle warmed up and ready for you. You did pay for that convenience, right?
The reality is that, most of the time when you use your remote car starter, you will not be able to actually see that the vehicle has started. This is where the two-way systems become valuable to you. Extreme Audio of Midlothian, Virginia, has been specializing in this technology for over a decade, and we have had hundreds of conversations with our clients after selling them two-way systems. They are also useful if you aren’t sure you locked up after leaving the vehicle. Here is one of the things we hear most often: “My phone rings just as I am getting ready to exit my vehicle. I realize, when I am a few hundred feet away, that I don’t remember if I locked my doors. I simply press the lock button on my two-way system, see the confirmation that it locked and keep on walking. It is very convenient.”
