One of the best ways to make your truck bed more productive is a bed cover, and Extreme Audio has you covered with all the best brands and styles. Adding a bed cover to your truck will help protect the contents from the weather and will keep your valuables out of sight from prying eyes. Bed covers come in both soft and hard styles, and there are numerous options for both of them. Here is some valuable information on the most popular ones we sell.
Hard Bed Covers
Hard bed covers are the most popular covers we sell at Extreme Audio. They allow the utmost in protection from the elements, and they do the best job securing your valuables. A hard cover is going to be more expensive than a soft cover but in our opinion, the investment will be paid back to you time and time again over the years. This style cover is available in three major styles;
Folding bed covers are the most popular cover we sell, and for good reason. They are typically the least expensive of the hard covers, and they are relatively easy to use. All of these covers will hinge up from the back of the bed, and a few designs will also allow bed access from the cab side as well. Some designs are easily removed if you need whole bed access, and others will fold up against the back wall of the cab. These covers do a good job of protecting contents from the elements and a great job from a security perspective.
Solid bed covers are one piece covers that hinge from the cab area. This design started the hard bed cover revolution over a decade ago. In the earlier years, they were only available in fiberglass, and while they worked well, they were extremely bulky. Today these covers are available in a composite design that is significantly lighter. These covers will weigh sixty to eighty pounds, depending upon your bed size. Since these covers hinge up from one side, they do limit easy access to the bed area closest to the cab. And if you need whole bed access, you have to remove it completely and figure out where you are going to store it. The covers can be painted to match the truck, so they look great when installed. They also do the best job of protecting cargo from the elements as the cover wraps around the side of the bed. Solid covers are also as good as it gets for keeping your property secure.
Rolling bed covers are gaining in popularity as they share some of the operational benefits of the two previous covers in an elegant design. They come in two distinctly different designs, with one having a canister to hold the cover that sits under the bed up against the cab. This design works a lot like a roll top desk. The cover opens and closes easily with just one hand, and it can be locked in multiple positions as well. They are very good at weather protection, ease of use, and security. The drawbacks are they are not designed to be removed, and there is a canister that drops down into your bed six to ten inches, so it reduces bed storage slightly. These are also the most expensive covers available. The other rolling style cover works completely different in that it rolls up on the outside of your bed and gets secured up against the cab when you need to access the whole bed. These covers are less expensive than the canister style so many people like them for the price. They do a great job for security and weather protection. The drawback of this cover is it needs to be completely closed or completely opened if you are going to drive the truck. There is no provision to have the cover partially opened. Now if the vehicle is parked and you only want to roll it open partially, that is fine. It is only when moving that this is a concern.
Soft Bed Covers
Soft bed covers are where it all began, and they were the driving force in this category for decades. As the hardcovers have come out in more and more styles, it has impacted the sales of these covers. There are still many reasons to consider a soft cover. If the cost is important to you, these covers cost hundreds of dollars less than others. Some of the designs do a good job for weather protection, but from a security perspective, they are limited. They will keep your contents from being seen, but these covers are made of a vinyl material, so a razor blade is all that is needed to break into them. The leather grained vinyl does have a classy look to many people, and they are very easy to use. You can now buy these covers in styles that emulate the hard covers, meaning you can get one piece designs that hinge up, you can get tri-folding covers, and you can get roll up styles. In our opinion, if you use the bed a lot and need an inexpensive cover, we are fans of the roll up style cover. They are very easy to use, and they fit tight up against the cab if you need to access the whole bed.
