A client from Amelia recently contacted the team at Extreme Audio to ask about installing one of our blind-spot monitoring solutions in her 2019 BMW X3. While in the store, she asked our team if we could do anything to improve the factory stereo system’s performance. She wanted the sound system to produce more bass and improved clarity. After a quick vehicle inspection, we put together an upgrade package that would provide her with the peace of mind and audio performance she was after.
BMW Collision Avoidance System Installation
The first step was to install a USA Spec BSM 200 blind-spot monitoring system. The BSM 200 includes a pair of microwave sensors that our team mounted in the rear corners of the X3 behind the bumper cover. After routing the cabling through the vehicle, we removed the A-pillar trim panels to mount the warning indicators. The kit comes with three cover options for the indicators, so we used the black ones to blend into the interior.
This blind-spot system will illuminate the indicator anytime there is a vehicle in an adjacent lane and behind the B-pillar. The system will monitor a zone that is 33 feet long and provide warnings only when the X3 is traveling at more than 18.5 miles per hour. If a vehicle is present in an adjacent lane and the turn signal is activated, an audible warning beep lets the driver know that it’s not safe to change lanes. When the vehicle is backing up, the system switches to a cross-traffic alert mode to let the driver know if someone is approaching from the sides.
Match Audio Upgrade Solution

The small size of the Match amplifier allowed our techs to fit it easily in the side panel.
After listening to the audio system, we proposed adding a compact amplifier with a built-in digital signal processor to retune the system’s frequency response. We installed a Match UP 7BMW amplifier in the vehicle’s left-rear corner. This compact amplifier can produce up to 65 watts of power per channel. What made the system sound amazing was the calibration process we used to enhance bass output and provide a more focused soundstage for the driver.
Richmond’s Vehicle Enhancement Experts
