A client from Mosely recently contacted Extreme Audio to inquire about adding some warning lights to his 2016 Ford F-150 pickup truck. The client wanted a safety lighting solution that would be as stealthy as possible but still visible from long distances. He also requested that the system include a roof beacon, but he didn’t want the typical high-dome beacon. After some research, we put together a package that would deliver the safety he wanted without detracting from the look of the truck.
Ford Truck Warning Lights
Our project started with the installation of two Wicked Warnings Razor strobe lights in the front grille. We mounted the lights on either side of the chrome Ford emblem and ran the wiring to the rear of the hood so it could pass into the body near the hinge.
We installed a Putco Work Blade light bar on the rear of the vehicle. This 48-inch LED bar fits between the bumper and the tailgate cover. The Work Blade is similar in design to Putco’s Blade light bar but features white and amber LEDs instead of red. We wired the light to flash amber and white when in warning mode and added a dedicated all-white output mode that activates automatically when the vehicle is in reverse. Since this truck has a factory-installed backup camera, the extra light makes it much easier to see behind the vehicle when it’s dark.
The final light was a Wicked Warnings Raptor strobe light for the roof. This compact light bar features 24 high-performance LEDs and flashes in an alternating amber and white pattern. Our team fabricated a custom mount for this light out of ABS plastic, and we ran the wiring into the vehicle through the third brake light housing. This installation meant that no holes needed to be drilled in the roof of the vehicle.
