The owner of this cool 2018 Ford Mustang GT350 recently dropped by Extreme Audio in Midlothian to inquire about upgrading its stereo system. We’d resolved some issues with the stereo in his previous Mustang, so when it was time to make his new car sound better, he didn’t hesitate to return to us. He wanted the stereo to play louder and deliver better clarity. We proposed an upgrade package that we’d done in another client’s Mustang. The design fit his goals perfectly, and the budget was right on target.
Ford Mustang Speaker Upgrade
We started by removing the factory-installed front and rear speakers from the car to make way for new drivers from Sony and Audiofrog. We integrated a set of three-way Sony SX-GS1631C 6.5-inch components into the door and A-pillar speaker locations. The passive crossover networks for the speakers are mounted to the bracket that originally held the factory amplifier. Next, we made mounting adapters for a set of Audiofrog GS62 6.5-inch coaxial speakers to mount them on the rear parcel shelf. We added a layer of sound deadening material to the adapters to help control vibrations and make sure that the entire assembly was sealed perfectly to the rear deck.
GT350 Stereo System Amplifier
Our technicians used our Phonic PAA3 audio analyzer to check the factory radio outputs to ensure it would provide a full-range signal that tracked the position of the volume control. Once confirmed, we ran wiring from the radio to the trunk to connect it to an ARC Audio X2 850.5 five-channel amplifier. This amplifier is rated to produce 85 watts of power to each of the front and rear speakers. It also includes a 400-watt mono channel to power a subwoofer. We mounted the amp on the back of the driver’s side rear seat to keep it out of the way.
The client wanted good bass in the car but didn’t want an enclosure that would take up all the space in the trunk. Our upgrade plan proposed the JL Audio CS110TG-TW3 enclosure as a solution. This shallow enclosure is only 6.25 inches deep and features a single 10-inch 10TW3-2 subwoofer.
Richmond’s Best Car Audio Upgrades
With the equipment installed, our technicians finished the project by setting the crossovers and level controls on the amplifier to ensure that the stereo in this Mustang would sound great and play loudly. The client was thrilled with the results and particularly impressed that everything was invisible once the car was back together. I would like to inquire for budget what the articled sound system cost as I own a 2016 GT350 and wanted to upgrade the sound as well.

Afternoon! This particular system would run in the $3400 range currently. Certainly there are other variations that could be done, so best bet would be to give us a call or stop by to discuss! Thanks!
