A client from Stafford, VA, recently contacted us about his 2014 Honda Goldwing audio system. We’d recently upgraded the front speakers and added an amplifier to them. Now he was ready for a much bigger step.
The front fairing speakers in a Honda Goldwing are 5 1⁄4” round. There really isn’t room for additional speakers, but 5 1⁄4” can only be but so loud. When the client was heading down the highway at 70 mph, they just weren’t loud enough to hear. Looked like we were going to have to get creative on this one.
Our crew in Mechanicsville took a good look at the Goldwing and came up with an original “one-off” setup. We already had an ARC Audio KS125.2BX2 mini amp running a pair of Rockford TMS5 5 1⁄4” in the front. With some custom-machined brackets, we were able to add a pair of Wet Sounds Rev8s to the back of the Honda. Designed for wakeboard boat towers, the Rev8s play loud and clean, and are waterproof as well.
Powering the Rev8s is a Wet Sounds HTX-2 marine amplifier. Tucked away in the bag with the ARC Audio Mini, this amp delivers 150 watts RMS to each “tower” speaker.
With that much output and a nickname like Darth Vader, I wouldn’t be surprised that people move out of his way as he comes up behind them, playing the “Imperial March”!
We also sprinkled in some custom lighting so he was ready to ride.
