A Richmond-based client of Extreme Audio recently contacted our team to inquire about upgrading the stereo on his 2019 SeaDoo RXT-X. There was an existing system on the SeaDoo, but he was always having problems with it. He wanted it removed and replaced with something that sounded great and offered excellent reliability. After going over the design options, we came up with a system that would look and sound amazing!
Custom SeaDoo Stereo Speaker Installation
We started with the existing front speaker pods from the original system. We installed a set of JL Audio M6-650X-S-GmTi 6.5-inch coaxial marine speakers. The M6 series is currently the flagship line of boat and powersports speaker from JL. We added a JL Audio MBT-CRX Bluetooth audio controller above the speaker on the left side. The controller allows the client to pair his smartphone and play music stored on the device or from a streaming service. The controller has buttons for track selection and volume control so that the phone can be stored safely in the waterproof locker under the handlebars.
As part of our plan to make sure the system plays loudly, we created a custom enclosure that fits behind the seat platform. The enclosure was designed on our computer and was 3D printed so that it would be perfectly symmetrical.
Marine Amplifier Delivers Great Sound
The speakers are powered by a four-channel JL Audio MX500/4 amplifier. This amplifier can provide up to 70 watts of power per channel while maintaining good efficiency. We mounted the amp on stand-offs to a piece of marine-grade plastic. We never use wood in marine applications as it will eventually swell or deform, leaving the amplifier and the associated wiring without proper support. We used a pair of barrier strips to complete the wire connections from the amp to the cabling in the boat. All the wiring is wrapped in automotive-grade cloth tape to protect it from damage.
