A client from Manassas recently contacted our Mechanicsville location, looking to upgrade the audio in his 2004 Honda Goldwing. The Goldwing OEM system includes a radio and two speakers, but has very low power and small speakers. It certainly has a hard time keeping up with the wind and engine noise. To get more volume, the Goldwing was either going to need more power, more speakers or both.
With limited space to upgrade the speakers in the OEM location, we knew something would have to be added. The question became where. Luckily, there were two compartments right below the OEM speaker locations that we could use. Our tech fabricated a couple of adapters to be able to fit a pair of Rockford TMS65 6 1⁄2″ motorcycle speakers in those pockets. In the factory locations, we were able to adapt a pair of JL Audio C2-400x 4″ co-axial speakers. We installed a Rockford Fosgate Power series amplifier, the TM400x4AD, in the trunk to feed the speakers enough power to get the volume that the client desired. Rockford designed that amplifier specifically for the Harley, motorcycle and powersports market. Made to run in small, confined spaces, it was a perfect match.
