Here at Extreme Audio, we are always on the lookout for new technologies that will meet the needs of our clients. As an example, Alpine has been a leader in car audio for decades and just introduced the new Alpine iLX-107 – the first Wireless CarPlay source unit on the market.
What Exactly is Wireless CarPlay?
Apple has worked with various source unit manufacturers to integrate the iPhone and offer many of the most useful features through the source unit. This allows for Siri voice control for the driver to access information and control many basic functions while staying focused on the road ahead. You can use this interface for phone calls, text messages, music selections and the latest traffic-optimized directions for your destination. Until now, you had to plug in your phone for those features to work. With the iLX-107 from Alpine, now all you have to do is get in the car and you are seamlessly connected when the unit powers on.
Is All of Your Music on Your Phone?
This is a source unit designed for the music consumer who is more likely to have tunes stored on a phone or listen to cloud-based streaming services, so the CD player has been omitted. This allows for a unit half as deep as a traditional unit with a CD, so it can fit in more installations. The face of the unit has a clean design and a few simple multi-purpose controls that add to its simplistic beauty.
Don’t let the simple design fool you – this is still a great-sounding unit with the flexibility needed for a first-class audio system. It includes an auxiliary input and three sets of 2 V pre-outs. Alpine’s Media-Expander improves the sound of compressed digital files, as well as the Tune-It smartphone app that allows for advanced audio tuning for your music. There are also add-on relay positions that allow for relay-connected accessories like light bars or truck accessories. You can even use iDatalink on many vehicles for extra vehicle sensors or gauges.
