A client from Virginia Beach contacted Extreme Audio while researching 2013 Porsche Cayenne blind spot detection solutions. He called 20 different shops in Virginia, in search of a reputable dealer to work on his SUV. After looking at our website and reading the articles we’ve posted about blind spot detection systems, he was happy to make the two-hour drive to see us.
Porsche Cayenne Blind Spot Detection Installation
We based the client’s safety solution around a USA Spec BSM 200 unit. We’ve tried several other systems and the BSM 200 is hands-down the best we have ever tested. It works exactly the way our clients want and has proven to be very reliable. The system includes a pair of microwave-based radar sensors that need to be mounted in the rear corner of the vehicle. We used the included steel brackets to ensure that the sensors are secure.
The system includes a pair of LED warning indicators that we installed at the base of the A-pillar trim panels. The indicators light up orange to warn the driver.
Vehicle Safety System Operation and Features
The BSM 200 works in two ways: When driving faster than 18.5 mph, the system will let the driver know if there is a vehicle in the lane on either side of the SUV anywhere from the middle of the Cayenne to as far back as 33 feet. Unlike other systems, the BSM 200 will alert the client when he passes a vehicle or one changes lanes into the space beside his SUV. Other systems are much more limited and picky in their alert criteria.
If the client activates the turn signal while the system has detected someone in his blind spot, the system provides three loud warning beeps and flashes the LED indicators to let him know not to change lanes.
When the Cayenne is reversing, the BSM 200 switches to a cross-traffic alert system. It will monitor the space behind the Porsche through a distance of 98 feet to alert the driver if another vehicle is approaching.
