A client from Glen Allen came to Extreme Audio, looking for several upgrades to his 2008 Toyota Sequoia. We spent time getting to know the client and understanding his goals for the upgrades, including significant time on going over the vehicle and asking questions. This allows us to understand better the needs of our client. Once we had gathered all of our information, we worked up what we felt was the best solution, and he liked the idea, so we set an installation appointment.
Pioneer Touchscreen For Smartphone Integration
The main focus of this upgrade was improving the sound system and getting smartphone integration. We installed a Pioneer AVH-4100NEX touchscreen unit in the dash. It is a fully featured unit with Bluetooth for music streaming and hands-free calling. It also comes with Apple CarPlay and Google’s Android Auto, so he can safely use it while driving, no matter what kind of the phone he has.
We integrated a backup camera with the Pioneer unit to dramatically improve the safety of backing up his large SUV. As you can see in the picture, the camera provides integrated parking lines to aid in judging distance.
Great Sound Up Front With Audiofrog Speakers
In the front of the vehicle, we installed our flagship Audiofrog GB series speakers. We put the GB60 6.5” woofer in the factory location in the front doors on custom composite speaker adapters. We applied Hushmat sound-damping material around the speakers to eliminate any rattling or vibration, and installed FAST Rings in front of the speakers to transmit all of the sound through the door panel.
We installed the GB10 1” tweeter in the sail panel at the top of the door in a custom location, using the beautiful Audiofrog grille. The finished product looked beautiful and added a classy, yet subtle, improvement to the interior.
Serious Bass In The Back
Once the sound upfront was finished, it was time to turn our attention to the low end. We chose a JL Audio Stealthbox that fits perfectly underneath the rear load floor at the back of the vehicle and houses a 13TW5V2-2 13.5” subwoofer.
Electronics By Arc Audio
When it came time to choose power for the system, we went with the Arc Audio XDi1100.5 amplifier for its combination of great sound quality coupled with serious power output. This amp packs 1,100 watts of power, so the client can easily achieve concert-level sound at will. We hid the amp underneath a second-row seat, keeping all of the cargo space intact.
We used an Arc Audio IDX crossover in the install to allow the front speakers to be run active, giving each of the four drivers its own discrete channel, which results in better sound.
Expert Tuning Dials In System To Perfection
Our technicians spent plenty of time on fine-tuning the finished installation to extract every last ounce of sound quality from the system. The result was a car audio system that brought out every nuance in the music. You could hear details in the music that most people have never heard before. It made you want to sit and listen for hours on end.
Lighting Upgrade Improves Nighttime Safety
The client had previously installed an inexpensive set of HID lights and had nothing but problems with them. We removed them and installed new, replacement HID lighting from GTR for the low-beam, high-beam and foglights in the vehicle. Now, when driving at night, the client will see clearly, and has a reliable product designed for years of trouble-free service.
