A client from Chesterfield contacted Extreme Audio about updating the in-dash stereo for his 2008 Porsche Cayman. He explained that he wanted to add Apple’s CarPlay as well as Google’s Android Auto to his Porsche Cayman. As we got to know the client better, we also talked about a backup camera and satellite radio. Our team worked up a proposal that he liked, so we set a time for him to drop off his vehicle.
Nav-TV Interface Connects To Radio To Porsche Audio System
This particular Cayman had the upgraded Bose audio system in it and the client wanted to retain it with his new upgrades. For that reason, we added a Nav-TV MOST-HUR-997 interface. It works seamlessly with the fiber optic MOST network that Porsche uses for communication in the entertainment system, and enabling us to integrate a Pioneer AVH-4200NEX unit in the dash. As you can see in the finished pictures, we made the NEX unit look like a factory option from Porsche, keeping the beautiful cosmetics intact.
Hands-free App Control Thanks To CarPlay
The Pioneer unit gave the client all the modern technology upgrades he was looking for. Including, Bluetooth, for hands-free calling and music streaming. It also added two USB ports for charging and playing his portable music devices. And added an HD Radio tuner also. The CarPlay and Android Auto software built into the 4200NEX gave him instant access to features, functions and items normally stuck within his phone. Now he can view and select his contacts and send and receive text messages as well. All hands-free. He also has use of the GPS navigation features from within the Maps app on his phone for turn-by-turn driving directions. Again, too, voice controlled and hands-free in his dash on the Porsche touchscreen. Reminders and notifications will pop up and be spoken aloud as well through the car speakers via the Bluetooth connected system. This is achieved safely simply by utilizing the CarPlay or Android Auto software built into the AVH-4200NEX unit, both of which focus on hands-free, voice controlled commands and navigation of the menus and selections.
Satellite Tunes And Backup Camera Views
For an even wider selection of uninterrupted music, we added a SiriusXM satellite radio tuner that is controlled by the Pioneer unit. The tuner gave him instant access to more than 100 channels of the best in music, sports, talk, and entertainment. We also installed paint protection film underneath the satellite radio’s antenna to protect the paint from scratching.
If you have ever driven a Cayman, then you know that it has some serious blind spots. We integrated a backup camera into the rear bumper installing it in the lip just above the rear tag plate. Since these vehicles feature a rear bumper that has to come off for servicing, we added a quick-release connector on the camera harness in a spot that is easy to access for a mechanic working on the vehicle. Now, whenever the client puts the vehicle in reverse, the camera image instantly shows up on the 7” LCD display in his dash.
Client Ecstatic With Porsche Cayman CarPlay System
When the client came to pick up his vehicle, we sat in it with him, going over all of the features of the Pioneer unit to make sure he was comfortable with the operation. He loved how perfectly the unit fit in the dash and knew he was going to like all the upgraded technology.
