Blind Spot Monitoring System for Porsche 911 Carrera Turbo

Porsche Blind SpotA client recently contacted the team at Extreme Audio to inquire about upgrading his 2019 Porsche 911 Carrera Turbo with a blind spot monitoring system. The client lives about two-and-a-half hours away, just past D.C., but was impressed with the work we’ve shown on our website. He’d received a quote of around $10,000 to have his local Porsche dealer perform a similar upgrade. He was thrilled when we explained how our solution works and provided him with a price that was a fraction of that number.

When the vehicle arrived at our store, we pulled it into our installation bay and removed the rear bumper cover. We have a padded storage shelf on which we keep trim panels and vehicle components. This ensures they won’t be scratched or damaged while we upgrade our client vehicles. With the rear of the 911 exposed, our team set to work mounting the radar transceivers from the USA Spec BSM 200 system we were installing.

After wrapping all the wiring in automotive-grade cloth tape, we routed everything to the control module up in the dash. The BSM 200 provides an audible warning if there is a vehicle in the blind spot monitoring area and the driver has activated the turn signal. Likewise, the system automatically switches to a cross-traffic alert mode when the driver is backing up. To obtain the appropriate signal information from the vehicle, we used an OBD-2 interface plug under the dash. Should the dealership need to work on the vehicle, they can unplug the connector in a second, do what they need to do, then plug it back in.

For the indicators, we ordered a set of OEM sail panel covers from the local Porsche dealership and integrated the LEDs from the USA Spec into them. The result is factory-like performance and appearance that cost a fraction of what Porsche would charge to do the work.

If you are interested in adding a collision-avoidance system to your car or truck, drop by the Extreme Audio location in Mechanicsville or Midlothian. You can also reach us by phone or by e-mail using the contact form here on our website.[75411]

Would this blind spot monitor work on my 2016 Carrera cabriolet?
    Any suggestions, much appreciated.

It would be compatible with your Carrera. Are you in the Richmond VA area?

What would be an estimated cost range to install in a ’17 911 4s cabriolet? Have you done this previously in a similar vehicle and are there images of the finished look?

Do you also do front end cameras?

Hello. The newer version blind spot we currently offer would work in the Cabriolet with no problem. We don’t have any pictures beyond the one’s showing in this post. The sensors themselves are totally hidden, but the indicators would vary based on whether you wanted to use the OEM indicator parts or the aftermarket. We do also have options for adding a front camera. Give us a call at 804-302-4488 to discuss if you’d like.
