A client from Doswell, Virginia, came to Extreme Audio looking to refresh and update the marine audio system on his 2006 Chaparral 275. We sat down with the client and discussed how he used the boat, and what improvements he would like to make. We asked him several questions and offered suggestions along the way. After our consultation, we worked up what we felt was his best solution and he liked our proposal, so we set an installation time.
Clarion Marine Radio Provides Bluetooth And USB Sources
We started with a Clarion M303 marine radio in the dash for a few reasons. First, they are very durable, and we like that a lot. Second, the combination of Bluetooth and USB control of music make it a great hub for all his digital media. We added two Clarion MW1 LCD remote controls, one at the driver’s location and one at the swim platform, giving all of the occupants easy control over their music libraries.
Wet Sounds Equalizer Is The Command Hub Of The Audio System
From there, the music flows to a Wet Sounds WS-420SQ equalizer, which divides the boat into two listening zones and gives the client equalization unique to each zone. The WS-420SQ sends a signal to three total amplifiers – this one plus two existing ones that we reused to power the main area of the boat.
Wet Sounds Speakers Fill The Boat With Great Sound
We used Wet Sounds XS-808 8” component speakers to give the driver and front occupants incredible output and clarity. A set of Wet Sounds XS-650 coaxial speakers rounded out the rear of the boat.
Custom Rear Speaker Solution With Wet Sounds Speakers
One of the main things our client wanted was great sound when he was out of the boat, whether sitting on the beach, by the dock or in the water. Once again, we went back to Wet Sounds. We chose their REV8 speakers for the combination of great output and long-lasting durability.
The only problem with using these speakers was finding a place to mount them properly. We machined Extreme Audio custom aluminum plates for the REV8 speakers to properly mount them to the top of the boat on the outer ledge. As you can see from the pictures, they look like they were factory-equipped.
Wet Sounds Amplifier Keeps The Music Loud And Clear
While the REV8 speakers are great, if you want them to jam, you need a powerful amplifier that can stand up to the harsh marine environment. Wet Sounds makes a model called the HT4 that fits the bill perfectly. It will provide more than 600 watts of clean power all day long, never missing a beat.
