Yes, We Can Install Blind Spot Detection In Your Vehicle

Blind Spot DetectionVehicle owners who are looking for a way to enhance their safety on the roads of Richmond and Mechanicsville come to Extreme Audio for blind spot detection systems. We joke that a sixth sense, or having “eyes in the back of our heads,” sometimes saves us from costly incidents. Imagine if your car could tell you when someone was hiding in your blind spot? That information would dramatically reduce the chance of an accident or the need for you, or the drivers around you, to make an emergency maneuver. This article explains what a blind spot monitoring system is, and how we can install one in your vehicle.

What is Blind Spot Detection?

Late-model mid- to high-end cars often include advanced safety systems like blind spot monitoring, backup cameras, parking sensors and lane departure warning systems. A blind spot warning system uses short-range radar or ultrasonic sensors to detect the presence of a car or truck driving beside you and just out of your field of vision. When the system detects a vehicle, it will illuminate a small indicator that we install near the A-pillars of your vehicle. This visual indicator is a reminder to look over your shoulder before you change lanes. There is an indicator on each side of the dash, so you know where the other vehicle is, on either your left or your right.

If you activate your turn signal with someone still in this location, the detection system will produce a loud tone to alert you that it is not safe to change lanes.

We also offer blind spot camera systems that will show you what is beside your vehicle when you turn on your signal. We can display the image on many factory infotainment screens or install a new monitor for you.

Adding Blind Spot Warning Systems to Your Vehicle

Blind Spot DetectionWe can add a blind spot detection system to almost any vehicle on the road. When you come to Extreme Audio, a member of our team will start by inspecting your vehicle. We will determine what type of system is most appropriate for your vehicle; then we can discuss where you would like the warning indicators installed. Once we have a thorough grasp of the complexity of the project, we will provide you with an accurate quote to install, configure and test the system.

We definitely should be able to, but would need to take a look at the vehicle beforehand. Swing by one of our locations in Midlothian or Mechanicsville when you have a chance and we’d be happy to take a look!

I also have a 2016 Audi A3 e-tron, but live on a completely different continent. Was just wondering if the previous poster did manage to swing by, and if so whether it was possible and how much blind spot protection cost.

I’m not sure they were actually in our area as well. The vehicle would definitely be compatible, but cost would vary dramatically in different areas w/ different equipment and labor rates. I could definitely give references all over the US, but other continents probably not.

It would depend a bit on the system you were to choose. We have options that start at $899 installed. The systems that work the most like a factory installed system would generally run in the $1199 range installed. Best bet for sure would be to swing by one of our locations when you have a chance. Once we’ve seen the vehicle and have gone over the installation options for the visual indicators, we could give you an accurate estimate from there. Thanks!

I’m looking at purchasing a Forester from Subaru (probably a 2015 or 2016 model). Do you know roughly how much it would cost to install blind spot detection on the car?? It would more than likely be a used car with 50000 miles or less

I’m thinking of buying a used van and need to know if I can install sensors, and how much it would be to see if it’s worth buying this van or not. I can drive to Richmond to have you install it.

Anne, Thanks for the message. Most of those Ford vans come with a metal bumper on them, so a traditional blind spot detection would not work. It’s possible we could do a custom bracket to use an add on license plate style blind spot, but we’d likely have to look at it to figure that option out. There are also camera based options that could give you a video feed of the blind spots as well.

Mario, the closest thing we’d have only to comparing the different systems would be here. https://www.extremeaudio.org/a-comparative-look-at-blind-spot-systems-offered-at-extreme-audio/
We typically are custom tailoring the options to the individual needs of the client, and we could definitely integrate video into it as well if needed. If you’re in the Richmond, VA area stop by one of our locations when you have an opportunity to go over the options. If you’re not, let me know where you are and I may be able to refer you to someone near you. Thanks

Hi Mike, I got an email and saw the reply, its not showing up on the site here to reply. Sorry for the duplicate post. I’m in the Lancaster county, PA area 17543. Although based on your reviews at your locations I could see myself making a day trip out to you guys, if nothing is closer. One thing I forgot to mention is I’m currently utilizing the OBD2 port for a Comma 2 device that runs open pilot. Its a level 2 autonomous driving system that runs from the port to the camera system in the windshield. I’m not sure if this would be possible unless a sorta “Y” adapter would work

Mario, there are definitely ways to install one without interfering with that system. I would strongly suggest Westminster Speed in Westminster Maryland for that sort of job. They are well versed on those systems, and would be FAR closer to you. That way should you ever need service done, you wouldn’t be 5 hours away. You can mention we sent you, they definitely know us. http://www.westminsterspeed.com

Hi I just bought a 2021 Alfa Romeo Stelvio and wanted to know if blind spot detection can be installed on my car and work properly. I’ve asked a couple different installers and they said because I have LED lighting and the brakes are all tied in together that I would get false readings when i step on the brake. Is this true? if so is there a work around. Thank you

I’m not quite sure how the taillights would affect the blind spot, as your lights are considerably high up on the vehicle compared to the where the blind spot sensors would go. The only potential issue would be space for the sensors to be installed properly behind the panels, since the exhaust is in the immediate area of both sides. What area of the country are you located in?

There shouldn’t be an issue with installing it on that vehicle. The Active cruise should be using sensors in the front, that wouldn’t conflict or be affected by the sensors being added to the rear. What area are you located? Perhaps we can help you locate a shop qualified to work on that level of vehicle.
