One of the most common questions we get here at Extreme Audio is “will installing a Remote Car Starter void my vehicle’s warranty?” The simple answer is NO! Years ago, this topic became such a hotbed that a federal law called the Magnuson Moss Warranty Act was created. In simple terms it prohibits a car manufacturer from voiding your warranty because you installed aftermarket parts on your vehicle. Here is a link to the FTC’s section on this; http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0138-auto-warranties-routine-maintenance.
Can a Remote Car Starter Void My Warranty?
Now, there are some very important notes to this law. If the product that gets installed or the installation itself causes a problem, then your warranty may be suspect. Fortunately, you do not have to worry about either of those things at Extreme Audio as we only install the finest remote car starters available, and we employ award winning installation experts. We are known far and wide for the pride we take in the finished products we provide to our loyal customers.
Consider This
Humor us for a moment and allow us to give you an important analogy to consider: You find out you need heart surgery. Do you go looking for the least expensive surgeon, maybe someone that advertises on Craigslist, or offers coupons? Of course not! You go looking for the absolute best surgeon you can find, as you want to live a long and enjoyable life. Now let’s relate that to a remote car starter. They are considered surgery to your electrical system. Do you want to trust your vehicle to the person that offers the lowest price, or the store that is known to be the best? I think you get my drift.
Trust The Best And You Will Not Need To Worry
Extreme Audio promises to install the finest products available and only employ the most highly skilled technicians to do your work. This ensures that you will have many long years of trouble free service from your remote car starter. And in the very rare instance that your system may malfunction, we will give you priority treatment, like one of our family, to get your system working again as quickly as possible. You see, we hate doing warranty work. We don’t make a dime on warranty work and our customers get inconvenienced. So we figure that the better the product, and the better the installation we provide, the lower the chance that we will ever have a warranty conversation. Does this sound good to you? Then we invite you to stop by, call, or Contact Us for more information. We look forward to welcoming you into our family of Extreme Audio clients.
My elderly mother had a remote start installed on a brand new car. She had it installed with a place that the dealer told her to go to. She has had several problems with the car. Before and after it was installed. They denied her lemon law claim because of after market remote start. I fear they will deny all future warranty claims as well.
Sorry to hear that! The Magnussen Moss Act is definitely made for that purpose. Unless they can prove for sure it was directly caused by the remote start, they can’t void the warranty. Naturally if they can prove it caused the problem, the shop that did the installation would be responsible.
Let me know what area she’s in, maybe I can refer you to a reputable shop to get a 3rd opinion?
Thanks for the reply. I will have her get it checked by another shop. I’m sure it was installed properly, it’s just the dealership trying to get off the hook for the lemon.
Just bought (Oct. 2020) a 2020 RAV4 XLE Premium. I want to have a remote starter installed by someone not at the dealer. Will that void my warranty?
Definitely not! Let us know where you are, and maybe we can refer you to a reputable shop. Thanks
I’m in Baltimore, Maryland. Are there reputable shops here to perform remote start installation? Thanks!
I forgot to mention; i have a 2019 boxster s. thanks again!
I would strongly suggest Westminster Speed in Westminster, MD. They may be a little bit of a drive, but they are top notch and also happen to be Porsche enthusiasts as well.
Can you refer me to a reputable shop in Grand Forks ND? I would like a quality remote start.
The closest I know up there would be in Fargo? Code Zero Car Audio & Electronics, Inc.
