Aside from the usual features — unlocking cars and trunks, starting and stopping engines, and triggering the alarm — there are a lot of incredibly smart start features you could be using right now.

• GPS-enabled systems can track cars and mileage, find your vehicle in a crowded parking lot, monitor driving speed, tell you about local points of interest, and set invisible fences that trigger notifications. These tracking features are great for parents that want to monitor their teens, for fleet vehicles, for business travelers that claim mileage, and for multi-car families that want to track their vehicle locations and usage.
• Smart start systems provide up-to-date information on the status of a vehicle —  whether or not it’s running, whether it’s locked or unlocked, the voltage in the battery, the interior temperature, and more.
• With some systems you can get a text notification once your car reaches a certain temperature setting, or in some cases program the system to turn the vehicle off when you reach the optimal temperature so you’re not idling unnecessarily. You can also schedule starts and reminders, so you’ll never forget to warm your car.
• Unlimited range means you can start a vehicle, unlock or lock doors, set off alarms and more from anywhere.
