A new client from Ruther Glen came to Extreme Audio for some 2013 Harley Street Glide audio upgrades. He had previously replaced the factory radio with a Sony Marine radio, but knew that the key to making his system sing would be to add more power and upgrade the speakers. We showed him a few different options before finally settling on a using ARC Audio and Hogtunes products for his project.
Power For The Road
We chose the ARC Audio Moto 600.4 for this customer’s project. This amplifier is designed in all aspects specifically for use inside the fairing of Harley motorcycles. The custom shape of the heat sink and cover allows for the most power possible to be installed in the available space. The Moto 600.4 produces an impressive 150 watts per channel into either 2- or 4-ohm loads. That much power will ensure that the customer’s music can be heard loud and clear at almost any speed. The amplifier is also designed to be very efficient, so it can produce this power without taxing the electrical system of the bike.
Fairing Speaker Upgrades
We replaced the speakers in the fairing with ARC Audio Moto 602 6.5” coaxial units. Just like the amplifier, the Moto 602 speakers were designed to drop right in with minimal hassle. We used a set of ARC Audio adapter rings for a perfect fit. These speakers are designed to handle the power that the Moto 600.4 can produce while matching the acoustic environment of a motorcycle. What does that mean? They play loud. Very loud! And they sound good doing it!
Arc Audio Speakers Added To Custom Bag Lids
To dramatically improve the musical experience on the road, we installed a second set of speakers – ARC Audio Moto 692 6×9” speakers in a set of Hogtunes bag lids. The Hogtunes HT Lids feature water- drainage channels, with all the mounting hardware required to install them, and come finished in black primer. We made sure to paint the lids to match the Vivid Black paint of the rest of the bike. The speaker grilles on the lids are designed to be tough enough to resist damage from even the beefiest of riding boots.
Both the Moto 602 and Moto 692 speakers feature a completely water-resistant design. The construction materials resist fading and chalking from UV exposure, so they last for years and years. One of the most critical features in their outdoor longevity is the inclusion of a weather-resistant seal around the base of the tweeter mounting post. Without this seal, water or debris could get into the speaker and cause it to fail quickly.
Attention To Detail In The Harley Street Glide Audio Upgrades
We wired all the speakers on the bike to the amplifier with 16 AWG Stinger HPM Series copper speaker wire for maximum performance and reliability. We also used Stinger interconnects to make the connections to the source unit. We secured all the wiring using wire ties to ensure that each and every connection would stay secure when the customer was cruising down the road.
When the client returned to Extreme Audio to pick up his bike, he was thrilled with the outcome. The sound is crystal-clear at all volume levels, perfect for cruising at 65 – or beyond. The fit and finish of the Hogtunes bag lids blew his mind. There was no doubt that his ride back to Ruther Glen was going to be an enjoyable one.
