There are many misconceptions about remote car starter systems. Many of these myths are a result of a bad experience someone had or just plain bad information that they received. At Richmond based Extreme Audio, this is never the case. In this article we are going to look at eight common remote starter myths and debunk them all.
Top 8 Remote Starter Myths
#1. A remote car starter voids the warranty on my new vehicle?
This is the single biggest remote starter myth that we hear. The short answer is no. Way back in 1974, congress passed the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act to address this very issue. New car dealers were telling customers that if they installed aftermarket parts on their vehicle that their warranty would be void. It became such a hot topic that a law was made to address this issue. Here is a link to the FTC’s article; http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0138-auto-warranties-routine-maintenance. It seems that some new car dealers may have memory loss. Now one important thing to know is that if you have substandard parts installed or substandard labor performed on your vehicle and it causes a problem, then your warranty may be suspect. That is never an issue at Extreme Audio, as we only install the highest quality remote car starters, and we employ the finest technicians in the area. We will treat your car like it is our own. #2. I don’t need much range as I only need to start my vehicle from home.
We hear this comment multiple times a day during remote start season. The reality is, that once you go out to a warm vehicle one time, you are hooked. You will never want to enter a cold vehicle again. So, now you have to think about all the places where your vehicle will park in an average week. Whether it be work, church, the mall, a restaurant, school, and so on, we can almost guarantee that you would like it to start remotely. Our top of the line systems have several times the range of entry-level systems. Learn more about remote car starter range and why it is important.
#3. Remote car starters are bad for your car
This also could not be further from the truth. Simple physics prove that the engine runs better once it is warmed up. It runs more efficiently, and it lasts longer. So remote starting your vehicle is good for it. And if you own a diesel, the benefits are even greater for you.
#4. Anyone can install a remote starter
When it comes to remote starter myths, this is a big one. Modern electronics in a vehicle are very complex, and they use computer networks to allow all the electronics in the vehicle to communicate with each other. If your technician is well-trained on these networks, then you are good to go. If not, life can get really bad, really fast. Plus, when dealing with these modern networks, the quality of the wiring and the connections made are incredibly important. Here at Extreme Audio we solder all of our connections for the utmost in reliability. We employ only the finest technicians to ensure you will have years of trouble-free enjoyment.
#5. It makes my vehicle easier to steal
Nope, nada, ain’t happening. If someone decides to steal your vehicle, and you have a remote starter installed, they will still have to get around the same theft deterrent features that came designed into your vehicle. We defeat none of them. Imagine this scenario for a moment. You remote start your vehicle. A few minutes later, a thief tries to steal your car. The remote start system will shut off. All of your factory installed theft deterrent systems are active and for the person to steal your vehicle they have to bypass all of them. So a properly designed and installed remote starter is completely safe.
#6. What about starting diesel engines?
We can safely remote start any modern diesel engine, allowing time for the glow plugs to warm up. And if you have ever driven your diesel when it is cold outside, you know how much better it runs once it has warmed up.
#7. You can’t get a remote start on a manual transmission
Yes, you can. We can safely remote start a manual transmission vehicle and have done it for a long time. Click here to read our article on remote starting a manual transmission.
