A new client from Stafford, VA, recently traveled down with a friend to see us. His friend had us do an Arc Audio upgrade to his 2017 Harley-Davidson Road Glide, and was coming back to upgrade the factory stereo to a Sony CarPlay-capable model. Since he was also looking to add some tunes to his 2013 Harley-Davidson Road King, he made the ride down that Saturday morning to check out the speakers his friend had told him might match his setup.
The Road King was definitely a different scenario from the Road Glide, since the Road King doesn’t have a fairing to mount speakers in. For those applications, Kuryakyn has teamed up with MTX Audio to make an application-specific speaker upgrade solution. The Kuryakyn RoadThunder Speaker Pods by MTX are waterproof handlebar speakers with built-in amplifiers. Offered in black or chrome, they have integrated 100-watt amplifiers inside the pods, so they are protected from the elements when you get caught riding in the rain. Partner these speakers with the Kuryakyn Roadthunder Bluetooth Audio Controller by MTX, and you have a perfect motorcycle handlebar audio upgrade.
After adding these to his 2103 Road King and pairing up his Bluetooth, he was ready to hit the road home with loud and clear music he could hear over his exhaust and wind at highway speeds.
