Chester Client Adds 2008 Mercedes E350 Apple CarPlay

A client with a 2008 Mercedes E350 recently stopped by our Midlothian location, looking to upgrade his factory car stereo system. It was equipped with the Mercedes Harmon Kardon system. He was happy with the sound, but not with the user interface and lack of modern technology.

After checking out the various car stereo options, the client really liked the simple and familiar interface of Apple CarPlay. Alpine offers the only wireless CarPlay-capable car stereo with their iLX-107. Simply get in the car and it connects to
your phone automatically, using WiFi. It also has a very sleek design, which makes it look great in the dash.

To integrate into the Mercedes Harmon Kardon system, NavTV makes an integration device called a MOST-HUR (head unit replacement) that keeps the factory amp in the system. We also used a Mercedes-specific dash kit that NavTV offers. Combine those with a PAC swicp2 steering wheel control interface, and he was able to keep all of the OEM systems intact. Now he’s ready for his weekly Washington, DC, commute, armed with fully integrated Apple Maps, Messaging and his favorite music apps.

Looking to upgrade the car audio system in your Mercedes? Stop by one of our Richmond area locations, in Midlothian or Mechanicsville, or contact us here.

It looks like the centre console has a cord to an old ipodIn the glovebox there’s an Auxiliary Jack.

In a perfect world, you’d want to have the radio changed out like the person in the article. Then you could have a radio with bluetooth, Android Auto, and more. You may be able to find an adapter from a company called Bovee that will allow you stream bluetooth through the iPod connection you mentioned
