There are times when a  deal can be too good to be true.  It’s a great price and it is in stock so the temptation is strong.  But then you discover that the retailer you are considering is not an authorized retailer for that product or brand.  “What difference does that make” you might ask?  When it comes to mobile electronics, the truth is it can make all the difference in the world.

Here are four important reasons to make sure you’re buying from an authorized dealer.

Authorized retailers know about what they are selling.

Do you know the difference between the $99 set of speakers and that $199 pair? They know. How about whether they are a good fit for your listening tastes?  Will they handle the amount of power you will be throwing at them? They know that too. Most manufacturers require an original receipt from an authorized dealer to cover a repair or exchange under warranty. Even if a second-hand seller provides you with the original receipt, there are no guarantees – how do you know your new-to-you amplifier wasn’t damaged by a prior faulty installation? Service centers can identify electrical damage due to improper use and will often deny warranty coverage.  When you buy from an authorized retailer, you can rest assured that the manufacturer will stand behind your purchase.

Imagine this: you finally get your new head unit installed. You plug in your smartphone to crank some tunes, and… Nothing. It won’t even connect! Would you rather spend all day searching the internet for a fix on your own, or a few minutes on the phone with your authorized dealer? In most cases, an authorized retailer will have the answer immediately, but if they don’t know, they will have a direct line to the manufacturer who will be able to solve the problem quickly.

You know you will get real goods and not knock-offs

Do you regret buying that set of Alfine or JDL speakers out of the back of a white van? Worried that the subwoofer you order might turn out to be a box full of bricks?
