A client from Chester, VA, with a 2016 wheelchair-accessible Toyota Sienna van came to us recently to have a remote start added to it. The fact that she is often getting in and out of the van by using the side-door power ramp makes going out to the van to start it 20 minutes early in the morning way more trouble than it was worth. Adding a remote start would let her simply hit the button from inside her house or at work, and it would be warm and ready to go with zero hassle.
She wasn’t very interested in adding an extra remote control, but definitely needed the system to work from a long distance away when she’s out and about. After finding out she had an Apple Watch, we had just the ticket for her. We added the remote start function to her existing factory key fob. If she’s close to the van, she can simply hit the Lock button three times and it will fire right up.
The really cool feature, though, is that with the Dronemobile interface added, she can start the Sienna up right from her Apple Watch. Since it communicates with the Sienna via cellular, she now can start up the vehicle from virtually anywhere. The Apple Watch will even let her know the Sienna received the signal, and how long it’s set to run for.
