A client contacted us recently from Williamsburg, VA, looking to step up the output of his 2014 Harley-Davidson Street Glide audio system. He’d done a bunch of research on the 2014 and up Harley audio systems, and knew that they were a little bit different from the norm. Harley has multiple different “flashes” for the factory radio system, and you never quite know what the signal from them is actually set to by the factory. He’d seen a bunch of builds that we’d done on similar Harleys, so he decided it was worth the long ride to get it done the right way.
Once we got the Street Glide in the shop, we took it apart and realized that it didn’t have the upgraded Boom Audio system that was originally thought to be in there. We hooked up our RTA, which is a piece of equipment that allows us to see the sound coming out of it and know exactly what signal we were dealing with. In this case, it didn’t have the crazy bass spike that many of the 2014+ Harleys are known for, which was great!
The client was looking to get the maximum amount of output from that one set of speakers in the fairing, without adding anything additional in the back for now.
We decided on Arc Audio Moto602s in the fairing and a JL Audio HX280/4 amplifier hooked in-line with the factory radio. This package puts 140 watts RMS to each of the front two speakers, which means there’s plenty of power to hear them when riding on the highway.
Looking to bump up the output in your 2014+ Harley-Davidson? Come see us, or contact us HERE. We’re properly equipped to analyze an existing system and make smart choices for upgrades without the guesswork. We have locations in Mechanicsville and Midlothian.
