The team here at Extreme Audio recently had a visit from a Mechanicsville client looking for a unique audio system for his 2021 Jeep Wrangler. The client has invested significant resources into styling the vehicle to match his vision. He approached us with a request to build a state-of-the-art audio system that would look amazing and sound great. Our team discussed many system design options with the client and provided several sketches. With a basic concept in mind, we were let loose on this cool Jeep to create something truly amazing.
Stinger Source Integration
The client loved the look of the new Stinger source units. In fact, he asked that we use as much Stinger product as possible in the system design. We started things off by installing the HORIZON12 dash kit and connecting the wiring and interface modules to the vehicle. We used Stinger interconnect cables to connect to the quartet of amplifiers we’d be installing in the cargo area.

One of the many cool features of the HORIZON12 is its control outputs for accessories. We used this to control the light bar and cube lights in the front bumper, as well as white LED accent lighting in the interior. The wiring, relays, and fuses for these accessories are mounted under the driver’s seat. A removable cover that’s held in place with magnets keeps passengers’ feet away from the wiring.

Custom Jeep Amp Rack and Subwoofer Enclosure
The Wrangler’s cargo area houses four Stinger amplifiers in a custom amp rack. There’s a pair of MT600.4 four-channel amps to power the mid- and high-frequency speakers, along with a pair of MT700.1 monoblock amps for the subwoofers. Our team created a multi-layered acrylic trim panel to show off the hardware and pay homage to Jeep. Carpeted trim panels flank the amp rack, blending seamlessly with the stock interior panels.
At the back of the amp rack is the subwoofer enclosure. The enclosure houses two Stinger MC1-12D2 12-inch subwoofers. The clear acrylic windows at the back of the enclosure feature additional CNC-laser-cut layered black-and-white trim to continue the theme throughout the installation.
We mounted the Stinger power distribution blocks to a panel on the side of the enclosure. Of course, the black, white, and clear acrylic trim helps it match the rest of the system.

Jeep includes a tool kit with the Wrangler so owners can remove the doors. Since the amp rack eliminated access to the original storage location, we created a second under-seat solution for the hex keys and tools. We threw in a few extra fuses for good measure. The owner calls his Jeep ‘White Brick,’ so we used our laser to engrave that name into the clear acrylic covers.
AudioControl Speaker Upgrade
For speakers, we turned to AudioControl – one of a few companies that operate under the Stinger brand umbrella. For front speakers, we removed the stock enclosures in the lower front of the dash and installed new pods with the woofers from a set of AudioControl PNW-65CS2 6.5-inch components. The tweeters from the set are mounted on top of the dash in new speaker pods. The upper dash pods, along with new overhead pod trim pieces, were painted white to match the vehicle’s theme.
For the speakers in the sound bar, we installed AudioControl PNW-69 6×9-inch speakers to ensure there would be great midbass in the vehicle.
Attention to Detail
All the acrylic trim pieces, along with the dash pods, share the Wrangler’s angular design, creating a coherent theme from front to back. Speaking of the back, we had a little fun on the tailgate. We created a trim panel with the Extreme Audio logo, knowing that the client would be showing the vehicle off at car shows and meets.
The information plaque to the right of the tailgate looked a little out of place, so we drew up a system design and had it engraved into an acrylic panel. If you have a keen eye, you’ll notice an extra set of speakers we haven’t mentioned, powered by the second four-channel amp. We are working on a set of eight-inch speaker pods for the roll bar, and we’ll be installing them shortly.
Richmond’s Custom Audio System Experts
The client was absolutely thrilled with how the sound system turned out. He loves the way it looks and sounds. He’s even caught the attention of Stinger’s marketing team, who’ve asked him to display the Jeep at several events. That’s pretty cool!
