A client from Midlothian recently contacted the team at Extreme Audio to see if we could upgrade the stereo on his 2020 Sun Tracker Party Barge pontoon boat in time for the long July 4th weekend. After he auditioned several speakers and subwoofer options in our store, we designed a sound system that would provide the output capabilities and bass performance he wanted.
Sun Tracker Stereo Upgrade
We began the upgrade by installing two sets of JL Audio M6 6.5-inch speakers in the boat. The client chose the Gunmetal and Titanium grilles to match the cosmetics of the dash and railings. We installed the speakers under the front and rear bench seats and ran wiring back to the helm.
To deliver the bass he wanted, we installed a JL Audio M6-10IB 10-inch infinite baffle subwoofer in the face of the helm station. We created a reinforcing panel to prevent the fiberglass from vibration when the sub is cranked. The system is powered by a Wet Sounds HTX-6 six-channel amplifier that’s mounted in the storage compartment. The amp provides 100 watts of power to the front and rear speakers, and as much as 300 watts to the subwoofer. As you can see, we used Stinger power cable and interconnects to wire the amp. The power wire maintains the standard ABYC-approved color scheme and is corrosion-resistant.
A waterproof Aquatic AV AQ-MP-5ubt-s digital media receiver is mounted to the left of the steering wheel. The radio allows the client to play music from a USB memory stick, from his smartphone over Bluetooth or a radio station.
Richmond’s Marine Audio Upgrade Experts
Even though this project was on a tight schedule, we had the client’s Sun Tracker Party Barge sounding great in time for him to hang out with his friends. He loved the clarity of the system at high volume levels, and the bass from the sub made the music much more enjoyable. If you’re interested in upgrading the audio system on your boat, drop by Extreme Audio in Mechanicsville or Midlothian and talk to a member of our team. Hi there. I am in Texas, and my boat is too far away from you to have what’s done to this boat done to mine. But I dying to know how much all of this cost so I have a reference for quotes I am looking for now.
Could you please sent me a redacted, but itemized invoice that shows the total and item cost for the upgraded stereo system on this boat? I would really like to do this to mine, and it’s basically the same model.
Pricing is difficult to give, as this was done before many products changed dramatically through Covid. Also labor rates here vs. Texas could vary a good bit. Earmark Car Audio in Plano is a very qualified shop if you want to call there. Odin Mattes is the owners name, I’ll send him info on the job and the time it took us so he could put together an estimate for you.
