Though the name has been dormant for many years, Sony Mobile ES is back! The speakers, subwoofers and source units currently in the line offer fantastic performance and exceptional value, making them a perfect addition to the solutions available from Extreme Audio. Let’s look at what the folks at Sony have created!
Sony Mobile ES Speakers
The first products introduced to the new Mobile ES line are four speakers. First, there’s the flagship XS-162ES 6.5-inch component speaker set and its direct cousin, the XS-160ES coaxial speakers. In terms of factory replacement speakers, there’s the XS-690ES 6×9 set and the XS-680ES 6×8 speakers. All of the drivers use Sony’s proprietary Mica Reinforced Cellular (MRC) pressed pulp woofer cones. The addition of mica and aramid fibers to the pulp mixture improves rigidity and thermal stability while maintaining control over unwanted resonance.
The surrounds on the woofers feature the new Separated Notch Edge design that damps unwanted resonances while allowing for linear travel at high excursion levels. The result is less distortion at high volume levels.
Finally, all the Mobile ES speakers use a soft-dome tweeter design that delivers impressive extension to make high-resolution music sound amazing.
Ten-Inch Car Audio Subwoofer
The XS-W104ES is currently the only subwoofer in the series. This 10-inch driver features a proprietary five-spoke basket concealed by an injection-molded shroud. The shroud helps to route heat away from the voice coil and motor assembly using Sony’s Dynamic Air Diffuser design. The woofer cone uses the same MRC aramid-fiber material as the speakers and features an even more dramatic Separated Notch Edge Surround. Sony has optimized the driver specifications to deliver an excellent balance of efficiency and low-frequency extension, while the cone materials and surround design ensure low distortion performance.
XAV-9500ES Audiophile Source Unit
The XAV-9500ES is a floating-face source unit with a 10.1-inch gapless anti-glare capacitive-touch display. The radio includes both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay smartphone integration. What separates this unit from almost every other radio on the market is the 192 kHz, 24-bit ESS ES9080Q digital-to-analog converter and a powerful Analog Devices digital signal processor. The combination offers independent eight-channel parametric equalization for each channel, along with a 14-band global EQ. In addition, three-way crossovers and finely adjustable signal delay options will allow our installers to create an amazingly realistic listening experience in your vehicle.

Is the new 9500es waterproof and what’s the best waterproof for a road glide besides the Boom HD unit?
Regrettably none of the “halo” style floating radios are water resistant. The best choice for a 2014+ Harley would be the Soundstream Reserve featured here. https://www.extremeaudio.org/product-spotlight-soundstream-reserve-hdhu-14-harley-davidson-radio/
If you have a 2013 or older, we like the Aquatic AV units for a natural fit. They can be seen here. https://www.extremeaudio.org/product-spotlight-aquatic-av-aq-mp-5ubt-hs/
