Momento, a sister company to Compustar, released a new series of dash cameras in the fall of 2014. The series includes four different models. In this spotlight, we’ll look at the most affordable solution – the MD-8000.
Momento MD-8000 Dash Camera
The MD-8000 is based on a custom low-profile chassis that sits flat against the windshield. The camera at the unit’s base is adjustable to work with almost any windshield angle—from a Tesla Cybertruck to a modern transport truck or bus.
The MD-8000 featured a Sony IMX 1080p image sensor. The camera records 30 frames per second to ensure it captures everything that happens in front of the vehicle.
MD-8 Dash Camera Features
The MD-8000 and its brethren have some unique features that set them apart from other solutions on the market—first, they use radar-based sensing to detect motion when in parking mode. Compared to image-based sensing, the radar system dramatically reduces electrical current consumption, resulting in less drain on the vehicle battery.
Momento has included voice recognition features in the new M8 series of dash cameras. For example, you can say, “Hi, Momento,” then add “Save Video” to have it store the most recent information in a special folder. This is great if you witness something strange while driving.
The camera includes a 32 GB memory card that is inserted on the side of the chassis. The card can be upgraded to a 256 GB unit to provide hours of storage.
The low-profile chassis has two easy-access buttons. One activates the Wi-Fi transceiver. Once paired with your smartphone, you can use the Momento Dash Cam Viewer app to view and download video files. You can also adjust the camera settings. The other button triggers the camera’s event recording mode.
Easily Upgradable
The MD-8000 is a three-channel dash camera system. We can add a rear-facing camera or the IC6 infrared interior camera. The IC6 is a perfect solution for taxis, limousines, Lyft, and Uber rideshare operators to monitor occupants.
