A client from here in Midlothian brought his 2020 Jeep Wrangler to Extreme Audio in hopes of upgrading the sound system. He loved the vehicle but was disappointed in how the stereo system sounded. After talking with the client about how he enjoys listening to his music, we put together a simple system with great components to deliver the impact and detail he wanted.
Jeep Stereo System Integration
The radio that comes with the Jeep is well-featured and includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity and support for the most popular digital audio files. We used a PAC AmpPRO interface to extract a full-bandwidth audio signal from the radio to feed a new amplifier that would deliver significantly more power.
The client had already upgraded the soundbar speakers with JBL 6.5-inch drivers. After listening to several options in our showroom, he chose a set of the Sony XS-162ES 6.5-inch component speakers for the front of the vehicle. We used Jeep-specific speaker pods from Metra to mount the woofers in the face of the dash. The tweeters from the set are mounted on top of the dash at the windshield base.
Subwoofer and System Amplifier
To deliver the jam he wanted, the client chose a Phoenix Gold subwoofer for his Jeep. The TXJWB12 mounts to the swing gate on the back of the vehicle and includes a 12-inch subwoofer.
The PAC module feeds audio signals to an ARC Audio X2-850.5 five-channel amp. We mounted the amp under the passenger seat using spacers to keep it off the floor so it would remain clean and dry. The amp can provide up to 85 watts of power to the front and rear speakers and an impressive 400 watts to the system subwoofer.
