The owner of this 2022 Ford Bronco recently visited Extreme Audio in Midlothian to discuss upgrading the stereo system. He liked the features of the radio but wasn’t impressed with how loudly the system played or how much bass it produced. So we listened to a few speakers, subwoofers and amplifiers on our display boards to give the client some options for making the SUV sound better. After a quick vehicle inspection and brainstorming with our fabrication team, we devised a superb audio upgrade solution that the client felt would meet his expectations.
Audiofrog Speaker Upgrade Delivers Clear Sound
The first step in making the audio system in this Ford Bronco sound good was to remove and replace the factory speakers with new drivers from Audiofrog. We started by installing a set of GS42 coaxial 4-inch drivers in the dash speaker locations. Having a relatively large midrange driver and a high-quality tweeter up high on the dash provides a solid foundation for the soundstage in the vehicle.
Next, we removed the speakers from the kick panels and installed the woofers from a set of Audiofrog GS60 components. These drivers will handle the reproduction of midbass frequencies. Finally, we replaced the speakers in the rear pods by the back hatch with a second set of Audiofrog GS42 coaxial speakers.
Custom Ford Bronco Subwoofer System
The highlight of the audio system was to be the subwoofer enclosure we built in the rear side panel of the truck. While there are some bolt-in solutions, they look out of place and take away from the vehicle’s cargo-carrying ability. So instead, our team removed the trim panel on the vehicle’s passenger side and extracted the storage pocket. From there, our fabrication team created a sealed subwoofer enclosure using stack-fab and conventional MDF panel construction techniques. The goal was to maximize the available space to ensure that the subwoofer would reproduce low-frequency audio information with impressive clarity and impact.
Once the enclosure was together, we reinforced all the panel joints to make them airtight. Finally, we finished the enclosure with a durable black carpet so it wouldn’t rattle or buzz against the body or plastic panel. Speaking of noise, we applied SoundShield sound deadening material to the metal body panels around the enclosure to help minimize vibrations.
After we had the enclosure in the vehicle, our team installed a JL Audio 10TW3-D4 subwoofer and added an SGR-10TW3 grille to protect the driver from damage.
JL Audio DSP-Equipped System Amplifier

If the subwoofer solution was the highlight of this upgrade, then the system’s amplifier is most certainly its heart. We chose to keep the factory radio as part of the system and feed audio signals from it to a JL Audio VX1000/5i five-channel amplifier. In addition, we added a set of AudioControl LGD20 load generation devices on the wires from the radio to the amp to ensure that there wouldn’t be any noise in the system.
The amplifier is mounted under the rear seat on the vehicle’s driver’s side. This location provides adequate cooling to keep the amplifier functioning reliably. We added a DRC-205 remote control to the amp so the client can adjust the subwoofer easily to suit the mood or the music that’s playing.
Regarding system configuration, the subwoofer channel of the VXi amp provides up to 600 watts of power to the 10TW3 driver to reproduce bass frequencies. In addition, the four main amplifier channels provide up to 75 watts of power to the new Audiofrog speakers.
An integrated digital signal processor is what separates this amplifier from most on the market. The DSP allowed our technicians to route signals to the appropriate channels on the amp, set crossovers to optimize driver performance and apply signal delays to optimize the arrival time of the sound from each speaker. Finally, we used the parametric equalizers on each channel to ensure that what the listeners hear is accurate and realistic. The DSP is the brain of this Ford Bronco audio system upgrade.
Excellent Sound That Looks Factory-Installed
With the system dialed in and the vehicle back together, it was time for the owner to return to Extreme Audio and pick up his SUV. He hopped in for a listen and was immediately blown away by the clarity and output capabilities of the system. The bass was deep, just like he wanted. He loved that all the speakers were concealed behind the factory grilles.
If you have a Ford Bronco and are tired of the lifeless audio system they come with, drop by Extreme Audio in Midlothian or Mechanicsville and speak with one of our product specialists. We’d be happy to design and install a sound system upgrade to deliver the performance you want. If you can’t get to one of our stores during regular business hours for a consultation, give us a call or send our team an email using our contact form.

Unfortunately I’m on the East coast (NYC). Interested in all the hardware you installed on that bronco. I have a 2022 Bronco with factory speakers and I would like to upgrade it. Instead of making a custom made cut-out in the back seat panel for a sub woofer, is it possible to hang the sub woofer in the rear top bar. Just asking. Or any other way. Please let me know
Thanks for the message. I would check with NVS Audio in Roselle, NJ. They should be close enough to you, and very qualified
Do you have any recommendations near Greenville SC?
Elite Audio in Spartanburg is the closest that we know. 864-583-0604 Joe Zelano is the owner.
How did you power the gs60- 6” woofers in kick panels?
The 4 channels of the amplifier are running the front dash GS42’s and the GS60’s The GS42’s in the very rear are run by the radio.
This looks great. Nice job! Any recommended vendor to do something similar in Miami FL?
Audio Logic in Hollywood is a great shop, I would check with them.
Any reccos in Cincinnati, Ohio for this type installation?

Hey there. I have a 2022 bronco and would love the same sub setup as that. I am in South Dakota and have an extremely capable car audio friend of mine. Would you ever make another one of those boxes and sell it for me to install? Thanks Tom
Hi Tom. At the time we built this, we did not do it in a way that we could re-create it. The next Bronco we get in for the same installation we definitely plan on doing so. I’ll add you to the waiting list. Thanks!
Thank you! Take my money;)
Thomas, I’m happy to report that JL Audio is releasing a Stealthbox that mimics exactly what we’ve been doing in the Broncos. It’s supposed to be out in the next few weeks. You may want to check with your local JL Audio dealer to get one on pre-order. It’s supposed to be selling at $1199 which includes the fiberglass molded enclosure, mounting brackets, JL Audio TW1 10″ and a cosmetic grill. They don’t list it on their website currently, but it’s JL Audio SKU #94718
Are you able to fabricate speaker boxes based on the specs of the one used in 2022 Ford Broncos with the B&O upgraded audio system? My goal is to place a box like that on the passenger side and also one on the driver side. Both with an 8” subwoofer.
There’s not quite enough space on the drivers side for an enclosure to go. JL Audio has released a very nice Stealthbox application for these that incorporates a 10″ subwoofer into the OEM location. We do have them in stock, but they have not put them up on their website as of today.
Can the enclosure be sold minus the speaker in the event a buyer does not prefer JL Audio speakers?
JL Audio doesn’t offer any of their stealthboxes without the subwoofer. The TW1 subwoofer they use in that enclosure is designed for working in a ridiculously small sealed enclosure, around .3 cu ft. you’d be VERY hard pressed to find a subwoofer that would fit the same enclosure and perform better. If you want higher output, your likely going to have to have someone custom make something.
can you recommend a shop that can do install anywhere near your capability in Charleston, SC?
thanks
I’d suggest Custom Car Stereo there.

Hello I have been waiting a whole year to install new speakers on my 2022 bronco. Just asking what’s the difference between audiofrog and jbl or jl speakers I’m still confused on which speakers to choose.
All of the brands you mentioned are great brands with multiple speaker options to choose from. There’s a lot to consider when it comes to picking speakers. You really would want to find a local dealer that has a variety you can audition, maybe with a demo vehicle as well so you can hear them in a similar environment. If you’re not close to us, let me know where you are and perhaps I can refer you to someone.
I would really appreciate it that but is there something you can recommend me installing my self I don’t mind the price of the speakers just want something I can hear clearly and has base I like listening to all types of music techno to Spanish lol thank you for your help.
The AudioFrog speakers have done great for a bunch of our Bronco clients. The key is going to be the DSP and the tuning of it. Alpine is releasing a new amplifier soon that will have the correct number of channels, and it’s supposed to have a DSP that’s capable of tuning itself. If you don’t have a shop near you that is familiar with DSP’s, that may be a good option. It’s called the Optim8. Naturally we have not used one quite yet to be able to speak to how well it auto tunes, but we certainly plan on utilizing it for the next Bronco that comes in after it releases.
First and foremost, I want to express my utmost respect to your team for the commendable practice of recommending audio professionals from different states to assist those who are not within your immediate service area. I must say, I am truly impressed with the audio upgrade setup you have devised for the Bronco. I am located in Cumming, GA, and I am eagerly anticipating the delivery of my own Bronco within the upcoming week. I would greatly appreciate your guidance in locating a trustworthy and skilled team of professionals near me who can provide an exceptional audio experience for my vehicle. Thank you in advance for your assistance.
