A client from Richmond recently contacted the Extreme Audio team to ask about upgrading the stereo system in his 2019 Chevrolet Corvette Z06. The client wanted the system to play louder, be much clearer and have a subwoofer to reproduce bass that was fun. One of our product specialists inspected the vehicle and worked with the client to choose a selection of products that would deliver on the client’s expectations. With a plan in place, we scheduled an appointment to begin the audio system upgrade on this cool Corvette.
Corvette Factory Radio Integration
While one member of our team was removing the original-equipment speakers from the doors and rear side panels, another began the installation of a PAC AmpPRO AP4-GM61 interface. This interface module takes the digital MOST signal from the radio and converts it to a high-quality analog signal free of filtering, delays and equalization. Best of all, the interface’s output is a fiber-optic TOSLINK connector that we fed directly into the JL Audio VX800/8i amplifier. This connection eliminates the chance of noise entering the audio system through a conventional analog amplifier preamp stage.
The VX800/8i can provide up to 75 watts of power from each of its eight channels to ensure that all the new speakers in the car will sound fantastic. The amp also has an output to feed a high-power subwoofer amplifier. We installed a JL Audio XD600/1v2 600-watt monoblock amp to power the system subwoofer.
Audiofrog GB-Series Speaker Upgrade
Knowing that speakers are the most critical component in any audio system, the client chose a full three-way front-stage speaker set from Audiofrog. We installed a pair of GB10OE tweeters in the corners of the dash and a set of GB25 midrange drivers on custom mounting adapters in the upper door locations. The big woofer location at the bottom of each door was treated to a GB60 woofer to handle midbass duties.
We covered the interior and exterior door panels with two rolls of SoundShield sound deadening to help optimize the speakers’ performance and reduce the transfer of road, wind and exhaust noise from outside. We finished the speaker upgrade with a set of GS62 two-way 6.5-inch coaxial speakers in the rear speaker locations.
Stealthbox Subwoofer Delivers Great Bass

The last step in the installation was to mount a JL Audio SB-GM-C7CP1/10TW3 Stealthbox in the left rear corner of the trunk. This fiberglass enclosure was explicitly designed for the available space in the vehicle and doesn’t interfere with the owner’s ability to store the targa top in the back of the car.
Signal Processing Delivers World-Class Audio
We finished the audio project by configuring the crossovers and signal delays in the digital signal processor built into the JL Audio amplifier. We used our calibrated microphone system to measure each speaker’s output, then used the equalizer settings for each channel to tame any unwanted resonances or reflections caused by the interior and its compact dimensions.
The result is an audio system that performs as if you were sitting in an armchair perfectly placed in front of two reference-quality home audio speakers. Voices and instruments are recreated with natural tonal balance, and performer placement is reproduced with impressive realism. It’s as if the band were set up across the dash of the car rather than the sound seeming to come from each individual speaker in the system.
The client returned to Extreme Audio, excited to hear the new sound system. He hopped in and cued up some music he loved. He had a smile on his face in a matter of seconds. While the car was in the shop, we installed 3M Ceramic IR window tint, so we explained how to care for it and reminded him not to roll the windows down for a few days while the adhesive set.
If you’re interested in a world-class audio system upgrade for your car or truck, drop by Extreme Audio in Midlothian or Mechanicsville and speak with one of our product specialists. They’d be happy to design an upgrade that will sound amazing. If you can’t get to one of our stores during regular business hours, give our location nearest to you a call or use our contact page to send our team an email.
