A client from Chesterfield came to Extreme Audio in Richmond, looking for a serious audio system in his 2015 Polaris RZR900. We spent time looking over the vehicle with him and getting to know how he used the vehicle, as well as his goals for the upgrades. At that point, we offered him a solution that we felt best suited his needs. He loved our ideas, so we set a time for him to drop off the side-by-side for us to start working this Polaris RZR900 audio build.
One important thing to note is we did this vehicle in two separate stages, the first being everything but the subwoofer, and the second stage being the JL sub and additional amp. We will cover everything together in this feature article.
Wet Sounds Products Handle The Signals

Right from the start, we knew the guy wanted a system that could really jam, so we had to pick equipment that would not only take the abuse of life on a SxS, but also have great output. We started with a Wet Sounds WW-BT-VC Bluetooth controller to allow the driver to stream music wirelessly to the sound system, as well as control track, pause and volume from a waterproof controller. From there, the music goes to a Wet Sounds WS-420SQ waterproof preamp, giving the client equalization controls, as well as subwoofer level control and a separate 3.5 mm aux input.
JL Audio And Wetsounds Provide The Speakers
From there, the sound travels to a pair of JL Audio amplifiers, an HX280/4 that powers the speakers and an HX300/1 that powers the subwoofer. These amps are ridiculously small, extremely powerful and very efficient.
The HX280/4 sends 140 watts per channel to a pair of Wet Sounds ICON8s that are mounted right behind the passengers, facing forward. They supply all the music minus the lowest bass frequencies. And wow, do these speakers jam! The client has no problem achieving concert-level sound while riding along his favorite trails.
When it came time for bass, we went back to JL Audio, using their 10W1v3-2 ohm subwoofer, mounted in a SSVworks glovebox enclosure. The HX300/1 sends 300 watts of clean power to the sub, giving the client all the bass he needs to keep up with the Icon speakers.
Lightbar For Safer Night Driving
For a finishing touch, we installed a dB Link DBLXS-32C 32” LED light bar on the vehicle, giving him greatly improved nighttime visibility.
Client Loved His Polaris RZR900 Audio Upgrades
When the client came to pick up his RZR, he was thrilled with the upgrades. He couldn’t believe how loud and clear the stereo played, and he loved the look and visibility of the LED light.
