A client from Richmond, Virginia, came to Extreme Audio looking for a dramatic sound quality improvement to his 2015 Nissan Frontier crew cab. He had audio work done to his previous vehicle and liked the sound improvement, but not the installation quality. He found us online and liked what he saw, so he stopped by our facility. We went out to his vehicle with him to look it over, listen to it and get to know him better. We realized that he loved music, and was interested in a great-sounding system. We worked up what we felt was the best solution for his needs and presented it to him. He liked our idea and set an installation appointment.
Pioneer Headunit Adds All The Bells And Whistles
It was decided early on that he wanted to change out the factory radio in the dash. We went with the Pioneer AVH-4100NEX unit, as it has almost unlimited upgrade potential. In the future, when he upgrades his phone, he will have access to both Apple’s CarPlay and Google’s Android Auto on this unit. Our team of installers integrated his factory backup camera and steering wheel controls with the Pioneer unit.
Arc Audio Amplifiers Provide Power For This Nissan Audio Upgrade
From there, the musical signal travels to Arc Audio amplifiers. An XDi 600.4 powers the front speakers, sending 300 watts of power to the 6.5” woofers and another 300 watts of power to the 4” midrange and tweeter package. An XDi 650.1 amplifier can put out more than 650 watts of clean power, and it is used to power the subwoofer. Both amplifiers were completely hidden behind the rear seat on custom mounts, so the client lost zero storage space from adding them.
Arc Audio Black Speakers For Top-Of-The-Line Sound
When it came time for front speakers, we went back to Arc Audio. We chose the Black 6.3 package, which uses a 6.5” woofer, 4” midrange and 1” tweeter. As you can see in the pictures, we made a custom mount to hold the woofer in the front door in the stock location.
Where the magic really happens is in our custom-made A-Pillar mounts for the midrange and tweeter. Doing this raised the sound stage up off the floor, moving it to across the dash. Now the sound will be wide and spacious, making you think you aren’t sitting in a mid-size truck anymore. We used factory style material to recover the pillars, resulting in a factory appearance.
JL Audio Subwoofer Adds Low-End Authority

For bass, we made a custom, sealed enclosure for a JL Audio 10-TW3D4 subwoofer, which fires down toward the floor. It is covered in a carpet that blends well with the existing carpet and sits perfectly under the rear seat on the “60” side of the 60/40 seat.
When the client came to pick up his truck, he was thrilled with the quality of the installation, and the detail in the fit and finish. But the magic happened when we first turned it on. The sound – did he ever love the sound! And that brought a big smile to the team at Extreme Audio.

Looks awesome! I have the same truck and am doing a similar build. This gives me a good idea of what it can look like. Still haven’t decided on a 4″ cone or a 3.5 ” dome. The dome would be an easier install but the cone plays a bit lower frequency which is what I want. I’m just not sure if the cone will have enough air space behind it to properly. Nice build fellas.
Guys sell these boxes by chance
It was a one off in this case. We could certainly build it again, but we’d need the truck here to do so. Are you in our area at all?
Hi, I live in Irving Texas, 75060.
I want to buy yours pillars speakers for my 2012 Nissan frontier.
what is the price?
Those have to be built with the vehicle here, we don’t have a way to make them out of the truck. I would check with Soundscapes in Carrollton, TX. Thanks!
What’s the speakers in the a pilars, looks very nice
Those are the Arc Audio Black Series
What would the ballpark pricevof this job without the a pillar speakers?
There’s quite a few changes to the equipment available now vs. then. Are you in the Richmond, VA area where you could come by to go over the options? Thanks
I looked up Frontier truck sound upgrades and found this article. I have a 2019 4 door cab. Do I need an appointment for a consultation?
No appointment needed for a consultation! We’re open from 9-6 Monday-Friday. This particular upgrade was done at our Mechanicsville location.
