Midlothian Mercedes-Benz Client Gets C63 AMG Camera System

A regular client of Extreme Audio from Midlothian recently dropped by our store to inquire about a 2013 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG camera installation. The client wanted to be sure he wouldn’t bump into any curbs when parking or maneuvering his sport coupe. We had a look at the vehicle, then designed an upgrade that would give the client the functionality he wanted.

C63 AMG Camera System Installation

Our technicians mounted the rear camera under the lip above the license plate.

The front camera was mounted right below the license plate.

The front camera is barely noticeable.

The front-view camera helps protect the bumper from damage.

Dynamic lines make backing easier.

The parking camera project is based on two key components. First, we used a NAV-TV W204-N Interface module to connect to the factory-installed color display in the dash. NAV-TV makes some of the best vehicle interface solutions on the market. This interface interrupts the image sent to the LCD screen to show the front or rear camera images. The module detects when the vehicle is reversing through the CAN network to display the rear camera image automatically.

Another benefit of the W204-N is that it overlays dynamic guidelines onto the rear camera image. These lines show the predicted path of the vehicle based on the steering wheel position sensor.

The second part of the system are the VOXX ACA501 low-profile CCD cameras. We mounted a camera underneath the front license plate and above the rear plate on the trunk lid. The angled mounting bracket provides a clear image of everything in front of and behind the vehicle.

Engine Compartment Lighting Upgrade

The client can use his smartphone to pick any number of colors under the hood.

The client loved the lighting upgrades on his other Mercedes so much that he had them done to his C63.

We recently completed another project for this client by upgrading the audio system and adding lighting to his 2005 SLK55 Coupe. He liked the lighting we added under the hood and asked if we’d repeat the installation in his C63.

We mounted six Hella RGB rock lights to the underside of the hood and positioned them to provide even coverage of the entire engine compartment. The lights are controlled by a Morimoto Bluetooth RGB control module. The controller works with an app on the client’s smartphone to allow him to choose what color light the Hella units produce. We also added an on/off switch on a small bracket under the hood to serve as the master control for the upgraded lighting.

The client returned to Extreme Audio to check out the work we completed on his Mercedes. He loved the way C63 AMG camera system was seamlessly integrated with the factory display and how we mounted the cameras. The lighting under the hood was the icing on the cake. We set up his phone to work with the controller and showed him how to use the system to change the lighting color.
