Midlothian Mastercraft X2 Marine Audio Overhaul

Mastercraft X2 Marine AudioA client from Midlothian recently contacted Extreme Audio for help with his 2005 Mastercraft X2 marine audio system. The client had just purchased the boat and, as you can see, wanted the installation cleaned up and made safer. After reviewing the functionality of the system and discussing the features the client wanted, we offered a proposal to make the marine audio system safer, more reliable and work the way he wanted.

Mastercraft X2 Marine Audio System Upgrade

We found the previously-installed system to be a huge mess.

The whole system is powered by the single Wet Sounds amplifier.

The Wet Sounds amplifier was mounted up out of the way in the storage locker.

The existing tower speakers were retained for the upgrade.

When the boat arrived in the installation bay, our team removed the Dual and Pioneer amplifiers, discarded the power and speaker wiring and pulled out an older Clarion radio. The client chose a Wet Sounds HT-6 six-channel amplifier to power the front, rear and tower speakers. We mounted the amp on the side of the storage compartment under the passenger seat, locating it well off the floor to keep it dry.

JL Audio Marine-Grade Component Speakers

JL Audio component speakers were added to the bow of the boat.

Unsurprisingly, the front speakers in the boat were blown. We removed the damaged speakers and installed a set of JL Audio M770-CCS-SG-WH components in their place. JL Audio’s marine speakers are considered some of the best in the industry. They offer exceptional sound quality and reliability.

Clarion Marine Radio

The new Clarion radio added more features and SiriusXM.

A Clarion wired remote was added to the system.

The last piece of audio gear to go into the boat was a new Clarion M508 marine source unit. The radio is mounted in the storage compartment on the port side of the boat. We removed the M101-series remote from beside the helm and installed new Clarion MW-2 in its place. We added an SXV300V1 SiriusXM satellite radio receiver so the client can listen to whatever genre of music he wants without interruption.

Marine Electrical System Upgrades

The selector switch allows the client to turn on or off the auxiliary battery.

The next step was to upgrade the electrical system. We installed a Perko battery selector switch and added an Interstate Batteries 24M-XHD secondary power cell in a battery box. The selector switch allows the client to play the sound system without the engine running, then switch to the other battery to start the boat and get home safely.

With everything installed and the amplifier configured to work with the new radio, it was time to turn this Mastercraft X2 marine audio system upgrade project back over to the client. He returned to Extreme Audio to pick up the boat and hopped on board for a listen. He was thrilled with the way the new equipment sounds and loved that everything had been installed properly. If you are near Richmond and need a hand with your boat, drop by our store in Mechanicsville or Midlothian and speak with a member of our team. You can also reach us by e-mail for more information about any of our products or services.
