Midlothian Jeep Wrangler Radio and Sound System Upgrade

A client from here in Midlothian recently contacted Extreme Audio to ask about upgrading his 2019 Jeep Wrangler High Tide with one of the Alpine Restyle source units. As luck would have it, we had just completed a sound system upgrade on a similar vehicle. We invited the client to drop by our store to check out the radio. After hearing how much better the audio system sounded with new speakers, subwoofers and a high-quality amplifier, he asked us to replicate the system in his vehicle.

Jeep-Specific Audio Upgrades

The new Alpine Restyle radio includes Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Hi-Res features.

Here’s all the factory equipment, removed so that we can add the Alpine Restyle equipment.

Our technicians securely mounted a pair of the Alpine Restyle tweeters in the factory dash locations.

Our technicians also replaced the rear soundbar speakers with a set of Alpine Restyle components.

The project started with the installation of an Alpine i509-WRA-JL. This radio includes a 9-inch touchscreen and a custom mounting and trim piece optimized for the 2018 and newer Wrangler and Gladiator. The radio includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone connectivity, so the owner can use voice commands to choose entertainment options, make phone calls, send text messages or get navigation instructions to almost anywhere in North America. This radio is Hi-Res Audio certified, so music from Tidal, HD Tracks and Amazon Music HD will sound fantastic.

We removed the small front speaker pods at the bottom of the dash to make way for a set of Alpine SPV-65x-WRA 6.5-inch component woofers. The tweeters from this set are installed on the top of the dash using the included mounting brackets. We also upgraded the rear soundbar speakers with a set of Alpine SPV-65x-WRA components. This set includes new grilles designed to make the new speaker look right at home in the overhead pods.

Big Sound with a Small Footprint

Because the owner carries a lot of cargo, we installed a set of JL Audio Stealthbox enclosures, complete with a 10TW1 subwoofer in each.

This ARC Audio X2-1100.5 amplifier serves as the powerhouse for the entire system.

We took full advantage of the new radio’s equalizer and signal delay functions for optimal sound.

The owner of this Jeep often carries a great deal of cargo. As such, he didn’t want a large subwoofer enclosure in the cargo area. We suggested a set of the JL Audio Stealthbox enclosures explicitly designed for JL chassis-code jeeps from 2018 and up. Each of the subwoofer systems features a 10TW1 subwoofer in a compact enclosure that fits nicely under the roll bar and the rear wheel well. Trim panels with the classic Jeep grille look add a little style to the installation.

The subwoofers, along with the new front and rear Alpine speakers, are powered by an ARC Audio X2-1100.5 five-channel amplifier. This amp can produce up to 150 watts for each of the four speakers and a solid 500 watts for the pair of subwoofers. We mounted the amp under the driver’s seat so that it wouldn’t take up any storage space in the vehicle.

As you can see from the images, we took advantage of the radio’s equalizer and signal delay functions to optimize the system’s sound.
