A client from Midlothian contacted Extreme Audio to inquire about a Sea-Doo Wake audio system upgrade. The boat came with a basic sound system, but it did not get loud enough to be of much use. We inspected the boat, took some measurements and created a proposal for the client. After explaining our philosophy behind the product, we then suggested some mounting locations. The client approved the plan. We scheduled an appointment to begin work!
Wet Sounds Tower Speakers

We installed a set of Wet Sounds Rev10 horn-loaded speakers on the wakeboard tower using a set of swivel-mount brackets. These massive tower speakers feature a Kevlar-reinforced 10-inch woofer and a titanium-diaphragm, high-output tweeter. The swivel brackets allow us to point the speakers directly towards the stern. This way, skiers or wakeboarders will be able to hear the music in all its glory.
Coaxial Speaker Upgrade
To ensure that everyone on the boat is able to enjoy the music, we installed three pairs of Wet Sounds XS-808 coaxial speakers. Each XS-808 features an 8-inch midbass driver and a coaxially-mounted tweeter. The grille suspends the tweeter above the woofer, so no cone area is wasted with a mounting post. We installed the first set of speakers beside the drink holders recessed into the bow seats. The second set is in the middle of the boat on either side of the cockpit. The third set is in the rear storage lockers under the stern seating area.
JL Audio Subwoofers

To keep up with the collection of large speakers, we chose a set of JL Audio M12IB6-SG-TB 12-inch subwoofers for the system. The subwoofers are mounted on either side of the center walkway so that they load off of each other to maximize output. JL Audio designed these subwoofers to work without a dedicated enclosure and still produce amazing output with excellent power handling.
Clarion and Wet Sounds Electronics
We installed a Clarion M505 digital media receiver in the glove box. The owner can stream Bluetooth audio to this radio from his smartphone or play music from a USB stick. The output of the Clarion radio feeds a Wet Sounds WS-420SQ Half-DIN equalizer. The EQ includes bass, mid-bass, midrange, and high-frequency equalization bands, as well as a built-in PA system. Dedicated level controls for the tower and main speakers allow the client to fine-tune the balance of the system to meet his needs.
We mounted a Clarion MW1 3-inch wired remote control in the upper right corner of the dash and a second MW1 remote on the swim platform at the stern of the boat. Swimmers can reach the platform remote without getting out of the water.
Power to Perform

To ensure that the speakers we installed would sound great, we installed four Wet Sounds amplifiers in the passenger-side storage compartment. The amplifiers include a pair of four-channel SYN4 amps, a SD4 and HTX-2. The SYN4 amps produce up to 125 watts per channel. Four of the XS-808 speakers are on one amp while the other amp is bridged to run the tower speakers with 400 watts each. The SD4 produces an impressive 685 watts per channel when bridged to the pair of JL Audio Subwoofers. The HTX-2 makes 150 watts per channel and drives the last set of XS-808 speakers.
All the amps are securely mounted to the boat and powered with 4-AWG power and ground wire for reliable performance. We checked the functionality of each component in the system once everything was installed and connected. We finished by adjusting the sensitivity controls on the amplifiers to offer maximum power production without distortion.
Sea-Doo Wake Audio System Delivery
The client returned to Extreme Audio for a tour of his new Sea-Doo Wake audio system. We showed him where everything was mounted and explained the function of the radio, the wired remote controls and the pre-amp. We showed him how to pair his phone and let him select a song. He was stunned by how loud the system played and how clear it was. If you are in the market for an upgraded marine audio system, drop by our store in Midlothian or Mechanicsville, Virginia.
