A longtime client of Extreme Audio dropped by to talk about the stereo system and safety lighting he wanted us to install in his new 2022 GMC Sierra 3500 HD pickup truck. We’ve done similar upgrades for this client over the years, and with each iteration, we’ve fine-tuned the recipe to meet his listening preferences. The client wanted this system to play loudly while still offering excellent clarity, great tonal balance and realistic imaging. Also, since this is a work truck, he needed a safety lighting solution to keep it visible on work sites. The client brought the truck directly to us after picking it up at the dealer so we could get to work.
GMC Sierra Stereo Upgrade
The most important component in any stereo system is the speakers. The client chose Audiofrog speakers specifically for their impressive clarity and their ability to play loudly without getting harsh or muddy. Our team installed a set of GS690 6×9 woofers in the front doors and a set of GS25 2.5-inch midrange drivers in the dash. A set of GS10 tweeters went at the bottom of the A-pillars to handle the highest frequencies. For rear speakers, we installed a set of GS62 6.5-inch coaxial speakers in the stock back door location. We used sheets of SoundShield deadening material behind the 6×9 and 6.5-inch speakers to act as a gasket for the spacer and add mass to the door to improve bass response.
For subwoofers, the client chose a custom under-seat enclosure from MTI Acoustics. This vinyl-wrapped enclosure is home to a pair of JL Audio 12TW3-D4 12-inch subwoofers. For a little extra style, the client chose one of the Stage 3 enclosure designs that include a GMC badge and back-lit acrylic on the front.
High-Power Amplifiers and Processing
A pair of ARC Audio amplifiers power the system in this GMC Sierra. The client chose an X2 1200.6 six-channel amp to drive the speakers and an ARC 1000.2 DSP two-channel amp for the subwoofer. The ARC Series two-channel features the IPS8.8 digital signal processor that we used to configure crossovers, level controls and equalization for the system. We also installed an LR2 remote level control in the front of the vehicle and configured it in the DSP software to act as subwoofer level control. The amplifiers are mounted securely to the back wall of the cab.
Safety Lighting Upgrades Prevent Accidents

A key part of the project was to add safety lighting to the truck for heightened visibility at job sites. We installed six Wicked Warnings strobe lights and seven Wicked Warnings Auto Flasher modules. The flasher kits allow the client to flash the existing turn signals and brake lights to add extra attention to the truck.
We also installed 3M Ceramic IR window tint on the front two windows to match the rest of the truck. The Ceramic IR film looks great and helps cut down on infrared heat from the sun that enters the vehicle.
Last but not least, we installed a Truxedo Sentry CT roll-up bed cover on the back of the truck. This hard rolling cover keeps leaves and debris out of the bed and allows the client to store tools, equipment and belongings in the back without worrying about them being stolen. The cover uses aluminum slats that span the width of the truck, and it rolls into a nice little bundle just behind the rear window if he needs to carry something large.
Richmond’s Car Audio Upgrade Experts
The client returned to Extreme Audio and was excited to hear the new audio system we installed in his GMC Sierra. He was thrilled with how it sounded and loved how cleanly everything was integrated. Other than the tweeters, which match the colors and style of the interior, it’s all invisible. Drop by our store in Mechanicsville or Midlothian if you are interested in upgrading your truck or SUV with a new stereo system, safety lighting, bed cover or window tint. You can also reach us by phone or e-mail if you can’t make it to one of our stores during regular business hours.
