A client from Richmond, Virginia, dropped in at Extreme Audio in search of some technology upgrades for her 2006 Mercedes-Benz SLK280. The client had been in to see us awhile ago for a set of parking sensors, and we installed a Pioneer source unit with CarPlay and in her daughter’s Jeep Wrangler. Now that she had a taste for add-on technology, she was craving more. We made a list of her requirements and put together a package that would meet all her needs. We booked an appointment to start this Mercedes SLK280 technology update.
Pioneer Navigation and Smartphone Integration
The client chose a Pioneer AVIC-7200NEX DVD Navigation Receiver for her car. She liked the idea of having maps built into the system, but also having the ability to use her smartphone for CarPlay or Android Auto in the future.
Many Mercedes-Benz vehicles use a fiber-optic system to communicate between the factory radio and the factory amplifier. This system is called MOST. To integrate the Pioneer source unit in the vehicle, we used a NavTV MostHUR integration module.
We also added an SXV300 tuner to the radio for SiriusXM and installed a Rydeen DUO backup camera. We mounted the camera beside the license plate. The camera image appears as soon as she puts the vehicle into reverse.
Parking Assistance

The client had bumped into a few curbs when parking her car. We added a Curb Alert Pro from Brandmotion to give her warning that she was getting close to a curb. We mounted the Curb Alert underneath the front license plate. As she approaches a curb, the system emits a warning tone.
Open Sesame

The last part of the project was to install a Homelink interface in the vehicle. The client had remote controls for her garage door and front gate. We installed a stand-alone Homelink system at the top of the windshield. Each of the three buttons can learn the codes of one of her remotes. Now, all she has to do is press a button, and the gate or door opens.
Mercedes SLK280 Technology Delivery
Once we completed the work, we went through all the accessories we added and explained how to use them. Of course, we paired her phone with the radio so she could make and receive Bluetooth calls safely.

I am curious about the costs for the upgrades on your client’s Mercedes. I just bought the same model and I am looking for the exact upgrades except for the garage door opener.
Pricing would vary a good bit from one shop to another. Are you in the Richmond, VA area? If so, we’d be happy to put a quote together for you. If not, let me know where you are and I’ll see if I can connect you with someone reputable nearby?
I’m interested in a technology upgrade as well, and have the identical car, a 2006 MB SLK 280. I live in Charleston, SC, but would bring the car to you in Richmond.
