A repeat client from Mechanicsville, Virginia, came to Extreme Audio in Richmond, looking to improve his car audio system and gain smartphone integration in his 2001 Porsche 911 Carerra 4. Our team had previously worked on his Boxster and he loved our work, so when it came time to get work done on this vehicle, we were his first choice. In our usual fashion, we got together with the client and the vehicle for an audio consultation. We spent significant time on going over the vehicle and listening as the client explained his goals for the Porsche 911 upgrades.
Once we were done looking at the vehicle, the client spent time listening to our interactive demo boards, where we can give clients an opportunity to hear the products we are suggesting. It amazes us how many people will buy audio equipment without even listening to it. Our passion is audio, and we want our clients to be completely satisfied with our work, so we’ve invested substantial resources to properly demonstrate all of our equipment. This is just one of the ways Extreme Audio separates itself from our competition.
Once we gathered all of our information, we worked up a proposal that we thought best fit the clients needs. He liked our idea, and we made an installation appointment.
Pioneer Radio Gives Client Voice Control Of His Smartphone Functions
Right out of the gate, we knew the stereo system in the dash had to be upgraded. The client owns an iPhone, and none of his music could be played on the current radio. We chose a Pioneer AVH4100NEX unit for several reasons, with sound quality and smartphone integration at the top of our list. The client now gets to use Apple’s CarPlay software, letting him safely harness the power of his phone while driving. Everything from navigation, phone calls, texting, reminders, Spotify and Pandora are now voice-controlled. We added SiriusXM as well, to round out his entertainment options. The Pioneer unit also has a great-sounding preamp, so it makes a great basis for a high-quality music system. As you can see from the pictures, the unit looks beautiful in the dash, as if it came from the factory equipped that way.
Audiofrog Speakers Provide Clarity And Output
Next on the list was upgrading the speakers. We chose Audiofrog speakers to replace the factory front and rear models for their blend of accuracy and output potential. We made custom composite mounting plates to hold the GS60 6.5” woofers in the doors and the GS10 1” tweeters in the dash. In the rear of the vehicle, we installed GS42 4” coaxial speakers in the factory locations. We reused all of the factory grilles, giving the vehicle a stock appearance.
Low End Enhancement From JL Audio Subwoofer
Any good audio system needs great bass, so when it came time to outfit this 911, we knew a custom enclosure was in order. Our in-house fabricators designed and built a custom ported enclosure for a JL Audio 8W3 subwoofer. We covered it with a combination of carpet and vinyl with an inlaid pattern that fits the style of the Porsche beautifully. Then we mounted the enclosure securely behind the rear seat on the parcel shelf.
Tiny Powerhouse, Arc Audio Amplifier Powers Whole System
When it came time for power, we went to Arc Audio and chose the XDi1100.5 amplifier. This amp may be small, but it surely is mighty. It provides over 150 watts per channel to both the front and rear speakers, plus 500 watts of power to the subwoofer. When you factor in the quality of speakers and the amount of power, this vehicle will have no problem reproducing the client’s music at concert-level volume. In keeping with our factory-look theme, we hid the amplifier and the crossovers behind panels in the front trunk.
Expert Tuning From The Professionals At Extreme Audio
Once we finish an installation, our team takes all of the time needed to extract every last ounce of sound quality from the system. We take into account the time alignment controls in the Pioneer unit, level controls on the front speaker crossovers and tune-ability of the amplifier. In our findings, many shops will make quick adjustments, make the vehicle sound good enough and send it on its merry way. We have no desire to build good-sounding car audio systems, but rather pride ourselves on building incredible-sounding vehicles. Our founder, Mike Bartells, got his start in the competition scene, so he knows the improvements that can be made by attention to detail. That thought process has been instilled in every employee of our company.
Suntek Film Protects Interior
The finishing touch on this vehicle was Suntek Carbon film, giving the vehicle a classy look while protecting the interior and the occupants from the sun’s damaging UV rays.
