A repeat client from here in Midlothian recently returned to Extreme Audio in search of a lighting upgrade for his 2019 Ford F-150 Shelby pickup truck. He wasn’t happy with the light output, even though the truck came with LED bulbs right from the factory. After inspecting the vehicle and looking at the light output and pattern, we put together an upgrade package using high-quality Morimoto products that would let him see clearly on even the darkest roads.
Morimoto XB Headlight Upgrade
Rather than experiment with the stock lights, the client chose a set of Morimoto XB headlight assemblies. These lights include four jewel-style LED projectors, LED accent lights and chaser-style amber LED turn signals. The lights have a cool start-up sequence that illuminates the main bulbs from top to bottom when the truck starts. With four lights on at all times, there’s at least twice as much light on the road. Best of all, the assemblies are compliant with SAE, DOT and FMVSS108, making them a fully legal and safe lighting upgrade. Most bulb-only upgrades don’t meet these requirements. Note the beam pattern with its sharp-stepped cut-off on the top. This prevents the lights from blinding oncoming drivers while delivering excellent road illumination.
Fog Light Upgrade Adds Safety
The second part of our lighting upgrade was to replace the stock fog lights with a set of Morimoto 4-Banger LED assemblies. These lights provide a wide light pattern that illuminates directly in front of the vehicle and the sides of the road. The light pattern is SAE F20 compliant, so they are legal for use as fog lights. Morimoto uses high-quality LED chips, so they are guaranteed to last and not fade after a few hours of use.
