Wintertime is “remote start season” in our business, with the mass majority of our December/January/February timeframe being dedicated to remote car starters. A few weeks ago, a client came in looking for a remote start system for his wife’s 2016 Honda HRV as a holiday gift.
After looking at the remote options available, he decided that she wouldn’t like having an additional remote control to carry, but still would need a long-range option sometimes. A popular setup with the new Smart-key Hondas is to add the remote start to the factory key fob. While that is perfect for using at home, it falls a little short (pun intended) when you’re out on the town or at work. That’s where Compustar’s Drone Mobile comes in. It gives you the ability to start, lock, unlock and even track your vehicle from your cellphone or computer.
Now his wife can grab her factory remote in the mornings and press the Lock button three times, and the HRV starts right up. If her key isn’t around, she can start it from her phone, iWatch, iPad or whatever Internet-connected device is closest. When she’s deep in a building at work, one press of a button in the DroneMobile app and her Honda starts right up.
The system that we installed in her 2016 Honda HRV is made specifically for the new Honda push-button-start vehicles. With 90% of the connections being plug-and-play to the Honda system, as you can see in the pictures, it makes for a super-clean installation. Check out the video for a quick demo of how the factory remotes control the remote start system.
