A client from Prince George came to Extreme Audio in Richmond looking to upgrade the sound system on his 2014 Harley Street Glide. When he purchased the bike, it came with the optional premium audio system from Harley, known as Boom Audio. While this system is better than the base audio system, it still leaves a lot to be desired.
Our team is intimately familiar with the audio systems on Harleys since we do so many of them. We have developed a reputation of being the go-to shop when you want a great-sounding motorcycle stereo system that has excellent output.
With this client, we spent time listening as he explained his goals for the upgrades. We could tell early on in the conversation that we were on the same page with this bike, so we worked up a proposal for him that he liked and he scheduled a time to drop off the bike.
Great Sound Starts With Audio Analyzing
On 2014 and newer Harleys, many of the touchscreen radios come with a built-in equalization circuit that makes everything sound lousy. We have never figured out why Harley would do that, but oh, well, they did. As you can see in the picture, we can analyze the musical signal coming out of a radio properly to determine whether it needs some sort of signal correction. Fortunately, this bike did not. Many people doing motorcycle audio upgrades are not equipped to analyze the musical signal, so they have no idea what they are dealing with, nor how to address it. Extreme Audio is leading the pack in this area.
Purpose-Built Arc Audio Moto Amplifier

Since we knew the musical signal was good, we took the speaker outputs from the radio and integrated them into an Arc Audio Moto600.4 amplifier. This model was designed from the ground up to be a motorcycle amplifier and even the shape takes into account where most of them are going to be mounted. Each of the four new speakers is going to get an honest 150 watts per channel, totaling 600 watts of mind-bending wonderfulness!
Motorcycle Audio Speakers From Arc Audio
In the fairing, we modified the factory speaker enclosures to hold a set of Arc Audio Moto602 speakers. Again, these are designed from the ground up to work well for a motorcycle. They are 6.5” coaxial speakers with woven cones and cast aluminum baskets designed to take the abuse of life on a bike. When you are sitting still, they sound a little bright, but when you drive up the road, the treble sounds perfect. Again, this is because they were designed especially for the environment of a motorcycle.
Custom Bag Modification For Rear Speakers
Any good motorcycle audio system needs rear speakers, but many people love the look of the smooth factory bag lids. We couldn’t agree more, but you need rear speakers to get the output, so what do you do? Well, if you are Extreme Audio, you disassemble the rear bags and spend lots of time on drilling holes in the sides that face the rear wheel. This allows the music to escape the bags while keeping the beautiful factory lids untouched.
Now, we know you are smart, so you are asking yourself, “How do they keep dirt and moisture from getting into the speaker and the bag itself?” Great question. Our team makes custom grilles that we cover in Frogzkin – a unique material that keeps out water and dirt while letting the sound play through it.
Since we were looking for as much output as possible, we went back to Arc Audio, choosing their Moto692 6″x9″ coaxial speakers. They have incredible output, great clarity and increased bass response compared to a 6.5” speaker.
Highest Installation Standards

As is normal with all of our motorcycle installations, we neatly loomed and securely fastened all the wiring, and soldered and heat-shrunk all connections.
Client Was Blown Away By His Harley Street Glide Sound
When the client came to pick up the motorcycle, he was blown away by the attention to detail in our work. When we cranked it up the first time, he just nodded his head in approval.
