A long-time Midlothian client brought his 2023 Harley Davidson Road Glide CVO to Extreme Audio for help with a motorcycle audio upgrade. While he loved the motorcycle, the stereo system didn’t play loudly enough, and he wasn’t happy that the bass got quieter as he turned the volume up. After letting the client audition some of the products we offer, we put together a sound system design that would rectify his concerns.
Harley-Davidson Audio System Integration and Amplifiers
We started the project with the ARC Audio PSM-Pro digital signal processor. This DSP took the audio signal from the factory equipment and adjusted the levels to make it compatible with a new high-power amplifier. Of course, after the Cicada Audio speakers and amplifier were installed, we used the equalizer in the processor to tailor the sound of the system so it was clear, detailed and smooth. We got around the bass roll off of the factory radio by calibrating the system to play louder at lower volumes so the client could avoid that feature.
For amplification, we installed a Cicada Audio CX150.4 amplifier in the fairing. We integrated the amp into the factory wiring using an HDPRO4K installation kit with power wiring and original equipment audio connectors. This eliminated the need to cut or modify wiring that might void the Harley-Davidson warranty.
Cicada Audio Speaker Upgrade
The final step was to upgrade the front fairing speakers on the bike to something that would sound better and play much louder. We installed Cicada Audio CH65.2 Pro-Series coaxial horn speakers to make his music crystal clear, even at crazy volume levels. These speakers drop into the stock locations without any modifications and can handle as much as 300 watts of power. We chose the 2-ohm versions to optimize the available power from the amp, increasing it to almost 150 watts per channel. We left the factory-installed 6×9 speakers in the saddlebags.
Motorcycle Lighting Adds Style
We added an XK Glow RGB LED lighting kit to the bike while we had it apart to run wiring. The lights are located under the gas tank, the saddlebags, the tour pack and the fairing. The client can adjust the color or lighting patterns from an app on his smartphone.
Richmond’s Motorcycle Audio Upgrade Experts
With the audio system upgrade complete, the client returned to Extreme Audio to pick up his bike. Just as with the other bikes we’ve worked on for this client, he loved the way it sounded. If you want to upgrade your motorcycle’s sound system, drop by our store in Mechanicsville or Midlothian. One of our audio experts would be happy to design a solution to transform your bike into a concert on two wheels. Give us a call or send an email if you can’t get to one of our stores.
Nvs audio on you tube did this months ago with a sd 800.4 and a small water proof dsp unit and cicada speakers.
Sounds amazing,
Absolutely they did, we’ve known Carlos for many years and even talked to him about this bike before doing it. Same DSP, but different amp because we don’t deal with Sound Digital. This is just the first step for this client until better options are delivered to remove the Rockford amplifier from the scenario.
