A client from Chesterfield was referred to our team at Extreme Audio for the installation of a stereo in his custom 1955 Chevy Bel Air hot rod. After looking at some of the projects we’ve completed and reading our client reviews, he was confident that we could fulfill his requirements. His Bel Air boasts an 1,100-horsepower supercharged engine and a full roll cage. He wanted us to complete the installation of a high-performance audio system before he dropped the car off to have the interior created.
Chevy Bel Air Stereo Upgrade
We started with an Alpine INE-W970HD multimedia receiver. This radio features a 6.5-inch touchscreen and includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration. A built-in navigation system that uses GPS will help to ensure that the client can always get to the destination of his choice.
The output of the radio feeds to a five-channel ARC Audio X2-1100.5 amplifier that we mounted in the trunk. This amp produces up to 150 watts from each of the four main channels and 500 watts for the system subwoofer. As you can see, we protected all the Stinger wiring running to and from the amplifier with braided nylon tubing.
For speakers, the client chose two sets from Alpine. The front speakers are R-S65.2 6.5-inch coaxial drivers and the rears are matching R-S69.2. The shop that is creating the interior for the vehicle will complete the installation of the speakers.
Hot Rod Subwoofer System
We designed a custom subwoofer system to ensure that the system would sound great and be capable of playing loudly. Since the rear bars of the roll cage extend down through the rear deck, we suggested using a pair of JL Audio 10TW1-4 shallow-mount subwoofers. These 10-inch subwoofers play nice and low, even when installed in a small enclosure.
Richmond’s Hot Rod Audio System Experts
After a few days of work, we had this gorgeous Bel Air and its new stereo system ready to roll. The client was happy with our work and excited to get the car finished. We let him know we could fine-tune the amplifier for him once the interior was complete. If you’re looking for a stereo for your custom car, drop by Extreme Audio in Mechanicsville or Midlothian.
