A client from Midlothian recently dropped by Extreme Audio to discuss a lighting upgrade solution for his 2017 Chevy Silverado. The client wanted to make sure his work truck would be visible when parked on the side of the road. While at the shop, the client also inquired about a folding truck bed cover. Additionally, we discussed window tint options. The customer wanted to add convenience, comfort and safety to the vehicle. After inspecting the truck and looking at several product solutions for each request, we put together a package that met the client’s needs. Let’s take a look at the work we performed.
High-Output HID Lighting

We started the project by removing the factory Halogen bulbs from the headlights and fog lights. We installed GTR Lighting H1 HID bulbs in the headlights and Gen 3 Ultra Series fog light bulbs down below. The headlights have a color temperature rating of 5000k. This color matches most OEM HID systems with a nice white look with a little hint of blue. We used GTR Lighting Gen 5 Smart PWM ballasts to run the HID bulbs and ensure compatibility with the factory wiring and circuitry.
LED Warning Light Installation
The next step was to begin the installation of eight LED warning strobe lights on the truck. The lights we used feature amber and white high-output LED’s with switchable patterns. Our installation team mounted four lights in the front grille of the truck to alert oncoming drivers. We mounted two compact lights in the white portion of the third brake light and two in the reverse light portion of the tail lights.
A switch on the left side of the dash controls the lights, and two push buttons allow the client to select from any of almost 30 different warning patterns.
As with all of our installations, mounting the lights safely and securely is our top priority. We made sure the grille lights were aligned perfectly for a symmetrical look. With a total of eight lights on the truck, managing all the wiring was no easy task. Our technicians ran the wiring along factory wire channels, ensuring it would be safe and secure. All of the electrical connections were soldered to ensure maximum conductivity and reliability. We protect each connection with premium vinyl electrical tapes or heat-shrink tubing, depending on the location and application.
3M Color Stable Window Tint

This 2017 Silverado came from the factory with the rear side and back windows already tinted. The client asked if we could match the driver and passenger windows. 3M Color Stable tint has a rich, black look that blends perfectly with factory-installed tinting. Color Stable tint film offers 99% UV energy rejection to protect occupants from the harmful solar energy.
Our tint technicians use a computer-controlled plotter to cut the film for all of our installations. This process costs us a little more but prevents us from having to trim film on the window glass. With no knicks, cut-marks or scratches on the glass, the client’s truck looks just like new, only cooler!
Folding Truck Bed Cover
The last piece of this project was to install a folding truck bed cover on the back of the Silverado. After looking at several options, the client chose the UnderCover Flex from UnderCover Truck Bed Covers. This three-piece cover sits almost flush with the sides of the truck bed and provides a nearly watertight seal thanks to rubber seals and integrated drain tubes.
The cover is made from three large but lightweight fiberglass reinforced plastic panels. These panels provide more strength, durability and dent resistance than aluminum panels while remaining easy to fold. The cover will fold flat against the rear window for full access to the truck bed.
Chevy Silverado Lighting and Accessory Project
After two days of work, we had the client’s 2017 Chevy Silverado lighting system installed, windows tinted, and the truck bed cover mounted and adjusted. The client was thrilled with the output of the new headlights and liked the added visibility of the strobes.
