A client from Chesterfield, Virginia, came to Extreme Audio looking for some 2011 Dodge Ram upgrades in his beautiful Ram 1500 truck. Our team spent time on getting to know the guy to understand his goals for the truck. What we realized after looking it over with him is that he wanted a navigation system and improved sound quality. We spent time listening to different upgrade opportunities and worked up what we felt was his best solution for his needs. He liked our thought process and set an installation appointment.
Alpine Navigation Unit Offers Factory Feature Integration
For the dash of the vehicle, we chose the Alpine INE-W957HD 7” touchscreen navigation unit. We interfaced it to the Dodge using a Maestro module that we flashed with software for a 2011 Ram. What is unique about how we went about installing his new navigation unit is that we not only kept all of his factory features intact, he gained some new ones. He can monitor tire pressure on the touchscreen display, gained some new vehicle gauges, and can read and reset trouble codes. To put it simply, this is the finest interface made for integrating stereo equipment into modern vehicles. In choosing the Alpine unit, the client gained Bluetooth for hands-free calling and music streaming, and lots of options for digital media control, including USB and smartphone.
Incredible Sounding Audiofrog Front Speakers
For front speakers, we selected Audiofrog’s GS60 6.5” woofers and GS10 1” tweeter. While this is a brand-new company, it is run by folks with more than 40 years of experience in the audio business – and these speakers sound incredible. The detail and resolution are better than anything we have heard in their price range.
Our team installed the tweeter in a custom mount in the factory location in the dash, and we made a custom speaker plate to hold the woofer in the front doors. It should be noted that we use plastic for our speaker adapters, not wood, so they won’t deteriorate over time from moisture. We installed sound-damping material around the woofer to eliminate any buzzing or rattling that may occur when installing high-performance drivers.
JL Audio Subwoofer For Authoritative Low End
Any good audio system needs a subwoofer. For this truck, we chose a JL Audio 10W0v3, a 10” unit that works great in compact enclosures. We used a high-quality enclosure that mounted underneath the rear seat on the passenger side. Now this truck will have real, authoritative low-end sound that lets you know it’s there.
Arc Audio Amplifier Really Packs A Punch
For power, we went to Arc Audio and chose the XDi 850.5 amplifier – a small-footprint amplifier that sounds great and really packs a punch. It can supply 850 watts of clean power, so volume will never be an issue. We mounted it securely under the front seat, completely hidden.
