A client came to our Midlothian location recently, looking to do some audio upgrades to his Polaris RZR. It seems that we had recently done a bunch of upgrades on his friend’s RZR at our Mechanicsville location (you can check it out in our gallery) and his friend had told him we were the guys to see!
After going over the water-resistant and waterproof options available to him, we set off on a course to trick out his RZR.
He was primarily interested in being able to do a few things. One was to use his iPhone for music, but also keep it safely tucked away and dry. Wet Sounds makes a killer waterproof control knob, that allows you to be able to tuck the phone away in a waterproof case that still gives you access your music with ease (even with gloves on!). The Wet Sounds Bluetooth media control knob allows you to turn the volume up and down, select track forward and backward, and use play and pause as well.
His other goal was to be able to use a separate iPod that he had loaded with music. We added an auxiliary plug to play the iPod through, and took that addition a big step further by adding a Wet Sounds WS-420SQ equalizer to handle switching between the two sources, as well as providing a slew of sound adjustment capability.
A JL Audio HX280/4 amplifier was a perfect match for the Wet Sounds ICON8s that were installed on the rear bars. The amp is virtually waterproof and is so small that it tucks up in the corner of the glove box. It’s also super-efficient, making sure it pulls the least amount of power possible from the electrical system while still delivering 140 watts to each tower speaker.
What can we say about the Wet Sounds ICON8 Towers? Like anything that Wet Sounds makes … they rock! Built for durability and for harsh marine environments, they fit something like this perfectly.
The Polaris sounded great and has the client ready to go play in the snow and mud. The heck with this crazy weather – he might get to do both in the same weekend!
