A client from Richmond stopped by our Mechanicsville location with a vehicle you don’t see every day: a 1972 De Tomaso Pantera! He wanted a new audio system, as well as a bit of restoration to his factory dash. Someone had previously cut a radio into the dashboard on the passenger side that he was hoping to clean up. They’d also cut a large hole in the center console for who knows what.
Upon surveying the options, our team came up with a plan. First was coming up with something to cover the holes in the dashboard. Our tech scanned in one of the badges on the outside of the vehicle and was able to print an enlarged duplicate with a 3D printer that covered the holes.
Next was cleaning up the huge hole in the center console, as well as coming up with a radio solution. We fabricated a new panel to cover the existing hole. We installed a new Retrosound radio and a clock into that panel — Retrosound makes a wide variety of vehicle-specific classic car radios that help maintain that era-specific look. Finishing it off were some new Alpine speakers for the doors and replacement grilles for the originals that were worn out.
Have a classic car that needs some modern updates, and want to maintain that classic look? Stop by one of our Richmond-area locations, in Mechanicsville or Midlothian, to see what we can do for you. You can also reach us by e-mail using our contact page.
Hey,
I have a 2012 Volkswagen Jetta 2.5 SE. It has a manual transmission. I would like to upgrade the speakers, and if need be add an amplifier to push the speakers. Do you offer a hideaway sub for this car? Thanks. Oh, by the way, yal complete upgraded my 2012 Toyota Tundra. Sounds amazing, and I get constant compliments on it.
Ray, thanks for the message! This is definitely something we can help you out with. Best bet would be to swing by when you have an opportunity. We do have some small hideaway style subs that may fit, although they may not give quite the same performance as that W7 Stealthbox! Bring the car by and we’ll test out some scenarios to see what may fit. Thanks!
