A client from Richmond contacted the Extreme Audio team for some help upgrading the audio and video options for his 2019 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter. The owner is transforming the van into an off-road adventure vehicle and wanted some help upgrading the radio to something with more features and a larger screen. He also wanted the system to sound better and produce more bass. Finally, he wanted to add rear speakers to the van so the sound would be evenly distributed throughout the interior. After inspecting the vehicle, we put together an Alpine and Audiofrog-based upgrade that would sound amazing and give him the infotainment features he wanted.
Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Speaker Upgrade

The first step in making this Sprinter sound good was to replace the front speakers with an Audiofrog G60S 6.5-inch component set. The woofers from the set are installed in the stock door locations, and we mounted the 1-inch tweeters in the dash. For rear speakers, we mounted a set of Audiofrog GS62 6.5-inch coaxial speakers in the tops of the rear doors.
We added an Alpine SBR-S8R 8-inch subwoofer in one of the storage areas in the back of the van to add a little warmth and impact to the music. It’s not crazy, but this subwoofer can produce enough output to be clearly audible while the vehicle is underway – and it makes watching movies much more fun, too.
Alpine Compact Amplifiers Deliver Great Power

We used a pair of Alpine’s Power Pack amplifiers to deliver good, clean power to the new speakers and subwoofer. The front and rear Audiofrog speakers are powered by a KTA-450 four-channel amp that provides up to 45 watts of power per driver. For the subwoofer, we used a KTA-200M mono amplifier. This amp provides up to 200 watts of power for an 8-inch sub. We mounted the amplifiers in the lower part of the dash to keep things neat and tidy. We added a RUX-H02 remote level control to the subwoofer amplifier to make it easy for the owner to adjust the bass level.
Alpine Large-Screen Radio Upgrade

The new entertainment system is based around an Alpine iLX-F511 11-inch Halo-Series touchscreen multimedia receiver. The radio includes both wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto smartphone integration, so the client can use the features of his phone with voice commands. Aside from supporting almost every popular digital audio file format, the radio can play digital video files from a USB memory stick. This is the perfect solution to allow the owner to watch movies while camping.
Heavy-Duty Winch Bumper Upgrade

While we had the Sprinter in the bay, we installed a CA Tuned Off-Road front bumper, with its Warn VR EVO winch. We mounted and aimed a set of Baja Designs LP6 amber lights on the top to light up the road or trail at night.
Mercedes-Benz Offroader Ready to Roll
With the new entertainment system dialed in, it was time for the client to return to Extreme Audio to pick up his Sprinter. We showed him how to use the Alpine radio and helped him connect his phone for hands-free voice operation. He loved how the new stereo system sounds and was impressed with our attention to detail.
